Sports bra if you are 32D or 32DD - what would you recommend?

My 13 year old DD is genuinely that size using the bra intervention method. She is also 5ft 8 so whilst statuesque is not as out of proportion as the measurements say. I went to the gym wearing a rubbish sports bra the other day due to a laundry crisis and it was hideous - I was extremely jiggly and it really impacted how fast I could run etc. It's subsequently struck me that poor DD doesn't have any sports bras and has to endure games, p.e., dance, gym etc without. I wear a Freya active underwired bra but I know DD would think it was hideous and I'm just wondering what she can get away with at her size (and 13 year old perkiness!) Would those Lycra vest bra things be enough?

How about a Shock Absorber? You can get them in really cool colours so your DD might like them.

BikeRunSki · 07/04/2015 23:33

I am the same size and height, although 30 years older. A Lycra top bra best thing is not enough! Not even when I was a teen! I wear a Shock Absorber Run bra, but it's not pretty. Panache do some more attractive sports bras.

mysteryfairy · 07/04/2015 23:42

Ok thanks - any recommendations about where to buy them from if trying on involved?

John Lewis

M&S own brand aren't bad either actually.

Maria33 · 07/04/2015 23:47

Shock absorber bras are brilliant.

SelfLoathing · 07/04/2015 23:47

May not be ideal if it's for an image concious girl but if it's for you, the absolute best sports bra for large breasts is Enell. They are amazing in that provided you are fitted properly nothing moves. The downside is that it is not pretty. They are also not ideal if it is really hot outside.

I'm a 32e and find the shock absorber good. My DD is 36d and refuses to try a sports bra for school sports (apparently none of them do) so just has her normal underworked 'T-shirt' bra. (Fortunately her main sport out of school is watersports so the wetsuit keeps things in place!)

SelfLoathing · 07/04/2015 23:53

Honestly Errol - if you are 32 E I would give the Enell a try. It is amazing.

I've got shock absorbers too but Enells are in a class of their own. I was like "oh this is what it must be like for normal people to run".

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 07/04/2015 23:56

I'm same height but 32E/F - I really like SweatyBetty sports bras & they come in lovely colours. I sometimes use BoobyDoo for sports bras too & they stock loads of different styles.

sleepwhenidie · 08/04/2015 00:00

I am same size, haven't tried Enell but Shock Absorber Run is excellent BUT very tight on band, I always get 34 otherwise I can't breathe, not v handy when exercising Wink

kittykarate · 08/04/2015 10:15

Enell bras are wonderful, but boy do they give you mono-boob! However, it was the bra I reached for when someone talked me into going trampolining.

Shock Absorber do some funky colours and some less scaffolding looking bras, the high support ones are pretty good.

I wear a Freya Active on days when I'm going to have to wear my sports bra under street clothes, it just looks like a very plain bra.

NotNowBono · 08/04/2015 10:18

I found Shock Absorbers restrictively tight, but really like the Panache sports bra (34DD). They fit true to size and nothing moves, and there's a little clip to make them racerback if you want.

TheAssassinsGuild · 08/04/2015 10:20

Sweaty Betty is good.

I agree that Shock Absorber sizing comes up small.

HazleNutt · 08/04/2015 11:53

shock absorbers do run small in the back, I always go up a size too. Prefer Freya though, they have several models, if she doesn't like the basic one.

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/04/2015 12:20

Panache sports bras are very good, and would probably suit younger breasts quite well. They also come in some nice colours and look more of a crop top style even though they're underwired. Freya do a similar one too (not the underwired one, I have that too and yup, tis ugly!)

I prefer the panache personally. Shock absorber also do one which goes to at least an HH but it runs very small in the band so she might need to try a 34 in it.

WeSailTonightForSingapore · 08/04/2015 12:31

Shock absorber, definitely. I used this brand when I was breasfeeding and had D cups and the bras were amazing, didn't feel a thing move. I
Got mine on amazon. Before I had DC I was a b cup and used Lonsdale bras and They did not feel supportive at all in comparison.

pseudonymity · 08/04/2015 13:57

I am a size 32dd, it equates to small in Nike Pro Bra Tops, which is what I would recommend for a teen who doesn't like sports bras. www.urbanoutfitters.com/uk/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=5749408125622&category=WOMENS-ACTIVEWEAR-CLOTHING-EU

CelticPromise · 08/04/2015 14:00

Panache are the bollocks. Often available cheap on mycurvesandme.com. I have to go up a back size and down a cup in them.

AnguaResurgam · 08/04/2015 14:01

I'm 36G and the Panache has been great.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/04/2015 14:11

When I got my latest shock absorber, the fitter in debenhams did say that often people need a different size to what they'd get in a normal bra but I didn't.

OP - reality is, you may be up against (a) what your DD will consent to wear - changing bras for PE may not be the done thing. If not, then some sort of compromise which is ok to wear all day but reasonably supportive may be the best you can do for her. and (b) whether she'd contemplate actually getting fitted properly like a grown-up would (my 16yo would be 'no way' on both counts).

LexieSinclair · 08/04/2015 14:16

I am a 32d and really rate the M&S own brand ones.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2015 15:19

How about a crop top style sports bra to wear over her normal bra for PE?

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 08/04/2015 15:24

I wear a shock absorber plus a Lycra crop top to ensure zero movement - would a crop top over her normal bra pass muster in the changing room?
