Born with the Hair colour that suits you?

What do people think? Your natural hair colour is the one that suits you best? As in it goes best with your skin tone and eyes?
I've had my hair both blond and brown at different times (and other colours too Grin I like both. But are you born with the colour that's best suited for you? Hmmm thoughtful expression

I've thinking this is the case. After years of dying and highlighting my hair, I'm now growing it out and living with my natural colour. It's actually rather nice and suits my complexion far more.

The more I look at other peoples hair, I realise you need to find a really good colourist and be on top of the upkeep or it doesn't do most people any favours.

Pointlessfan · 06/04/2015 21:58

I've never dyed my hair. I'm a red head with very fair skin and suspect I would look ill with any other colour hair. I think natural colour probably does suit people the best and you don't have to worry about roots.

Greenrememberedhills · 06/04/2015 22:04

I think so. But that hasn't stopped me dying it back to my "natural " colour as I have got grey hairs in it.

Lovewearingjeans · 06/04/2015 22:13

My hair is very much mousy, and I look more 'alive' with extra colour in. At the moment I'm peroxide blond, which I like, as it gives me an edge. I can't go very dark, as it makes me look ill, but I loved it being a coppery colour. Yes anything BUT mousy brown Smile

No, I look much better with highlights. But then I would get them as a child in sunshine so sort of my natural colouring I suppose.

I often think people suit the hair colour they were born with - so their hair colour aged 1 or 2 years old.

My friend always died her medium brown coloured hair red or brown. However the second she died it a natural blonde (the exact shade she was aged 2), she looked brilliant!

plentyofshoes · 06/04/2015 22:50

My hair has not been changed. It is dark brown with natural red tones in it. Due to my skin and eye color I think going lighter would be awful. I could go darker, but if it is not broke...

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 06/04/2015 22:53

Interesting theory

But... What about those of us who were very fair when little but became more brunette as we got older?

And doesn't your skin get a bit darker over the years too?

Box5883284322679964228 · 06/04/2015 23:01

Hadn't thought about skin colour Smile

brusselsproutwarning · 06/04/2015 23:15

True closertofifty I was practically hairless, not completely bald -adding proudly- until I was almost 1 so I wonder would it suit me better if I shaved my shoulder length hair off Grin

Dd1 was born with dark hair. It all fell out and she was blond for a while.
She now has that mousy colour that doesn't know if it's blond or brunette.

She will eventually go dark but will be more suited to blond I think.

daftyburd · 06/04/2015 23:52

I had blonde hair as a child. We lived in Madrid and I was so blonde people would cry rubia and make a fuss wherever we went. It darkened to my now nearly black hair. What colour would best suit me? I feel when I go grey dying it so dark would be very harsh. Maybe go for my golden toddler hair?

drinkscabinet · 07/04/2015 00:07

I've never dyed my hair. I had blond hair when I was a young child, then it seemed to go quite mousey (although I suspect it wasn't really, I just come from an area with lots of blonds so my dark blond looked mousey), when I moved to an area with better weather in my 20s my hair went a lovely golden blond but in the last 15 years it has got darker and redder and now in my 40s I'm beginning to get some grey.

I do think your natural colour tends to look best but once you get past 40 your youthful hair colour is no longer appropriate as your skin tone changes. My Mum is in her 60s, has a great cut and looks fantastic with her grey hair. She's lucky to have true grey hair (no yellow tones) and looks fab in blues and greys, colours that didn't suit her when she was younger and had more olive skin.

yourlovealoneisnotenough · 07/04/2015 00:29

i think you are born with the tone of colour which is right for you. I very much have a cool, ashy tone to my hair, and as long as I stay ashy it looks quite good no matter how dark or light I go (within reason). However as soon as I try warmer colours, light or dark, I start to look really weird.

brusselsproutwarning · 07/04/2015 08:25

My natural hair colour would be brown but I think lighter suits me better also helps to disguise the greys better Smile
If I go too dark or too light I look washed out.

I do suit my natural colour (red orange) but I dye it a darker auburn shade because I like the colour better. I have been every colour possible over the years - the worst being green (think Joker from batman) followed closely by jet black - I looked ill with both. My natural colouring looks great with blonde and ok with light brown but best with red shades.

If I was to go back to the hair I had at 1-2 years old I would have a ginger mop of curls (almost afro like as it grew up and out rather than down). Anyway to your question I would say yes and no - as much as I do suit the orange red shade it makes me look a bit plain and I still think I look much better with an auburn red shade.
