Flat shoes that wont damage my feet?

mumblingalongtime · 06/04/2015 21:16

I do a lot of walking every day as I don't drive. I have some converse but have heard these are bad for the foot arches or something. Are there any shoes of a similar style that are comfortable and won't damage my feet? Thank you!

Probably very unstylish, because I've always been a comfort over looks girl, i have several pairs (3) of Sketchers go walk. They have thick memory foam bases and are like walking on soft grass without shoes on. They do lots of style/ colour variations. I buy them at an outlet store I've paid between £10 and £35.

I hate wearing shoes at home but sometimes forget I have these on.

I have a school then nursery loop of 6 miles so my daily basic before shopping is 12 miles (i do sometimes drive).

I'm interested in this too - I always wear flats and have no arches. I find my converse quite painful after a short time. I'll look into the Sketchers, any other suggestions anyone?

No suggestions, just cheekily marking space. I can't wear heels.

Sketchers go walk are my absolute favourite, I walk miles in mine, I have 2 pairs, they don't look that great but are the most comfortable shoes I have had.

I have this problem too. Nike air max are the only things I've found that work. I'm searching for something a bit more demure...

I like things that have a rubber sole. Like DMs.

Minimalist shoes that are designed to be as if you were barefoot, like Vivobarefoot. The need for arch support is a myth but ordinary flat shoes are not designed to let your feet move naturally.

specialsubject · 07/04/2015 13:32

feet were not designed to walk on concrete/pavement, and the 'science' behind barefoot shoes is questionable.

a decent pair of trainers/walking shoes is all you need - if your feet are large enough buy from the men's ranges; better made and cost less.

Not trendy, but my most comfortable pair ever were black trainer-style lace ups from Ecco. They look a bit like these.

Crocs! I know... But I don't care!

Loads Smile most brands eg Kurt Geiger, jigsaw, mint velvet etc do leather/smarter trainers. Bright/ pattern Nike's are very 'in' as are new balance....

I love my fitflops

2fat4that · 08/04/2015 16:04

I wear Birkenstocks most of the summer, you can get nice designs and colours.

I also have insoles from Boots that I put inside my converse, these raise the arches, as I have plantar fasciitis, and can't wear flat shoes without insoles now.

The need for arch support is not a myth stripeytees.

As said above the science behind barefoot technology is questionable.

If you have an ideal functioning foot then a supportive arch isn't needed. Unfortunately 80% of us don't have that so most would benefit.
