what footwear between boots and Birkenstocks?

Tommy · 06/04/2015 20:14

not really sandal weather yet but a bit warm for my boots and leggings look. What shoes can i get to tide me over until my cropped trousers and birks look?
I need something with a strap or cut fairly high to stay on with my non- existent instep and they need to be flattish and comfy.
Any ideas?

do you not know of ' shoes'? they go on your feet. There are many types. You must have seen them

Loafers

ballet type shoes
slip ons of other types
Brogues

ETC

QOD · 06/04/2015 22:56

There is no in between.

I only do boots n birkenstocks/fit flops

CointreauVersial · 06/04/2015 23:24

Now now, Elizabeth, play nice. Wink

OP, I just bought these in the Snakeskin from Next. And I have a pair of Superga (half price on Amazon).

I like the tasselled loafers in neutral (or tan. Can't decide). They're from Next.

what footwear between boots and Birkenstocks?
goingmadinthecountry · 06/04/2015 23:54

I know what shoes are for. I have loads of shoes - LK Bennett, Hobbs, R and B, even Clarks - but they all have heels and can't be worn by me all day for an active job. I don't do Mary Jane shoes or those other middle aged teacher jobs. I need shoes I can run around in and still enjoy wearing at the end of the day but they mustn't be horrible and frumpy - I'm only 51!

I think if you grew up a Converse girl, you'll never truly love Toms or Vans.

lurkingaround · 07/04/2015 00:04

What about those shoes with interchangeable heels goingmadinthecountry? Here's where I read. Bloody fantastic idea. How clever is this designer? Prob cost a fortune. But (at the risk of repeating myself) what a bloody fantastic idea.

Traditional irish dancing shoes

ElizabethHoover · 07/04/2015 07:40

Galoshes. Get them

goingmadinthecountry · 07/04/2015 08:00

Brilliant, Lurking! Reminds me a bit of an upmarket version of those patent boot socks catalogues sold in the 70s - you could wear your own shoes over the top. Never saw them in real life but they fascinated me as a child.

Although there's then the problem of the ideal bag to carry some spare heels around in...

Petal02 · 07/04/2015 08:30

clothing.boden.co.uk/clothing/Pointed-Flats. I bought these Boden shoes in silver, but I also love the clarks shoes (in the tan colour option) that were mentioned in the fifth post on this thread. Of course your choice of spring shoes is dictated by whether you're wearing trousers or skirts/dresses. I find casual footwear far easier to find.

CiderwithBuda · 07/04/2015 17:48

I love those clogs. Can I wear them? I'm 51 and wore clogs first time around. Well I actually usually wore my best friend's older sisters clogs as I wasn't allowed them. Best friends sis used them as bribery to get me to do stuff for her for almost a whole summer.

FaFoutis · 07/04/2015 18:00

Do the clogs make a noise when you walk?

I only wear boots and birkenstocks and can't do inbetween. The fact that there is virtually nothing in my size (9) doesn't help. I like the biker clogs and might be able to squash my massive feet into them.

lavendersun · 07/04/2015 18:20

Cider - I am pushing 50 myself, I love them, comfy out of the box, I wore them in Rome on a city break last week and did a lot of walking, had my merrells with me but only wore them once. The only bit my foot touches, apart from the sole is the leather at the top of the clog at the high part (not sure that is a good description). It is very soft, no rubs, nothing but lovely comfy clogs. So far I have worn them with jeans, trousers, skirts and a dress - seem to work with anything.

FaFoutis - they have rubber/plastic/whatever it is on the sole.

bigbuttons · 07/04/2015 18:48

just got some of those clogs. can't wait!

CiderwithBuda · 07/04/2015 22:44

I've ordered them. Very excited! Thanks for advice lavender sun - although have to admit I ordered before I read your post!

goingmadinthecountry · 08/04/2015 02:39

Got these www.marksandspencer.com/mock-suede-platform-wedge-ankle-boots-with-insolia/p/p22247644 today
Felt 5 years younger. OK not really spring shoes but shorter than my winter boots!

ChoclolateOrange · 08/04/2015 13:00

The problem with in between boots and sandals is a question of comfort. It is easy to find stylish and comfortable boots or sandals but flat shoes generally seem either frumpy (most loafers) or too casual (Vans). I walk a lot on uneven pavements in a city so heels or platforms are out. The OP has my sympathy and I'm watching any suggestions with interest.

I think we need a thread on this topic every spring and autumn so if anyone has found the ultimate in between shoe they can let us know.

Those shoes are really nice Gillybobs Grin

TheFairyCaravan · 08/04/2015 13:12

I like the sandals Remus linked to, but have been wanting these for ages. As they have 20% off, and we're going on holiday in a fortnight, I've ordered them.

I usually wear my nude or navy brogues at this time of year, Converse or one of my many pairs of ballet flats. (I can only do flat shoes)

SpecificOcean · 08/04/2015 13:18

I go from boots to ankle boots to summer shoes- flip-flops, converse, pumps and sandals. The inbetweens just don't work for me.
I like those clogs though.

WigfieldRocks · 08/04/2015 13:24

Converse ballet pumps - good from April - October
