Discoloured eyelids - how to improve/disguise

My eyelids are quite brown and shiny, it's a hereditary or hormonal thing, I think, that gets worse when I'm ill, have low energy etc. It was terrible just after having my DD, I looked like a panda.

Although it's better now, I'd still like to disguise it but having sensitive, thin and crepey skin there AND hooded lids, most products I've tried make it look worse. I just trade the brown marks for accentuated wrinkles. Layering a few products like concealer and eye shadow generally looks terrible, particularly as I only use a light layer of CC cream on the rest of my face.

I've been using an eye cream that does not irritate and has helped with the hydration side of things, and Laura Mercier mineral shadow in a colour that matches my skin tone to make it look a little more even but it doesn't last all day and it is still quite noticeable.

I'm wondering if anyone has successfully got rid of/improved them or found a good product to disguise them better.

I have freckley/sun damaged eyelids and I swear by Mac paintpot in painterly. It like a tinted primer and really masks the marks. It's a good match to my skin tone and comes in a variety of colours. I rarely use eyeshadow over it when I'm working but if I do it helps they shadow stay put too. I love it! Also use it as a lip primer too.

Thanks, I'll go and Google it now!

If it needs nothing else on top, it is worth a try.

Ethel, have your blood fats checked. It sounds like your liver is sluggish.

Clinique airbrush is good for concealing.

EthelCardew · 05/04/2015 12:35

Venus - I read only yesterday that a few other symptoms I have could be caused by a slow liver. I will indeed get it checked out.

Airbrush is the only concealer I've ever re-purchased! But the pigment still slips around on my lids and gathers in the wrinkles. If I add powder to hold it, it's too much.

And I almost forgot, the dr said a long while ago, after liver function tests for a med I was on, that I have Gilbert's syndrome.

My skin/eyes have gone a tiny bit yellowish a few times but I haven't noticed anything else.

Benefit Lemon aid. Designed especially for this problem.

EthelCardew · 05/04/2015 12:51

I tried Lemon Aid years ago and it looked awful. I mean, truly awful. Perhaps they've changed it since?

Will pop into Benefit and take a look when I'm next in town.

Yes to benefit lemon aid too. Just a small amount dabbed lightly is all it takes. Too much and basically you gave lemon coloured eyelids, which is a whole different issue!

Also another vote for Lemon Aid. I have the brown eye lid thing too, it is a hereditary thing, nothing sinister like liver problems Hmm

Another vote for MAC's paintpot in the colour painterly. My sister-in-law is a make up artist and recommended it to me. I have very purplish eyelids as a result of very pale translucent skin. It acts as an eyelid primer/ concealer and paintpot is skin coloured. You can wear it on its own or apply eyeshadow over it - it holds the shadow in place all day, without any creasing. It's fab!

Thanks everyone, I've ordered the paintpot!
