Dressing for heat and humidity

I know this is pathetic, but I've just had a clothing meltdown. Winter is over here in Asia and I'm now faced with frizzy hair, pale flabby middle aged skin and nothing flattering to wear.
Here's what I have in my wardrobe...
3 maxi dresses that make me look saggy boobed and stumpy.
knee length shorts
lots of sun dresses that I feel 'arm exposed' in.
tee shirts that highlight saggy boobs.

My legs are fine knees downwards (if scaly and pale)
Boobs are different sizes so I'm self conscious about those.
Stomach is flat currently.
i look FINE in Winter! Can anyone help me improve my summer wardrobe?

Thank you so much ...

This made me laugh in sympathy op! I too have a season, only it's opposite to yours. Winter makes me dress in a way that makes me look fat. Come warmer weather i always get asked if I lost weight. sorry no help on offer from me but here's some sympathy!

It sounds like the change to have the biggest impact would be new bras. Have you read any of the bra intervention threads?

Bluestocking · 05/04/2015 10:07

For heat and humidity, I like loose cotton or linen trousers and a floaty top. Much more elegant than having lots of flesh on display and more comfortable too. Whereabouts in Asia are you?

StatiscallyChallenged has some great hints on balancing out asymmetrical norks.

You may also be better in a different style of bra - mine are bottom heavy and look much better in a half cup/balconnette style than a plunge bra.

With the sun dresses, would some Wingz help you feel less self conscious? I have a number of pairs as i don't like my arms exposed, and they don't make you hot.

I tend to go for loose fitting linen trousers or non-polyester palazzo pants.
On top I wear either fitted (natural fibres) tops, vest tops or floaty tops.

If you like dresses, how about longer t-shirt dresses?

I would invest in some shirt sleeved knee length silk dresses. Not sure where you live, but over here in the UK, I would go to Jaeger. I've been to countries in the Summer where the temperature is 40 degrees, and my silk dresses make it a but more bearable. They are chic, you don't have to bother matching tops and bottoms, so easier, plus they will take you anywhere as they are always appropriate. A cross body bag or a nice tote, a few bangles and some earrings and you'll be set.

What about some loose cotton shirts with cropped jeans (in thin denim) or linen trousers/loose chinos?
I really like the loose cami tops that were everywhere last summer. They were floaty so didn't stick to the skin like a normal vest top. No sleeves is more flattering then cap or tee sleeves ime.
this is the type of shirt i mean.

With one boob a smaller size a moulded cup can help cover up the difference, which is what I wear, but when I lived in Australia this would feel hot & my bras would get soaked through with sweat at the chest band when very hot, which was grim. I would wash & change to a fresh bra if I went home during the day.

I would say loose three-quarter trousers & floaty/swing top in natural materials (cotton/silk/bamboo) or preferably a dress as the fewer close points of contact between body & material the more comfortable when hot, but not great if you get thigh-chafing. You can get ant-chafing lotions or long-legged knicker things but I have no experience of trying them.

I lived in Singapore for years (90% humidity, 32C all year round), I know how you feel (since swapped for Texas that has the same summer but at least we have seasons). I love linen or hemp tops and silk/ linen trousers from Poetry, really good quality.

butterfliesinmytummy · 06/04/2015 03:04

Poetry has some great linen or hemp knee length shorts too, try these, your legs will tan and look fab in no time!

perfectlybroken · 06/04/2015 03:05

Could you look at your winter clothes and try and aim for versions of these but in light cotton and linen? Its easy to think of summer as a time to expose more flesh nut that's not necessarily the best way to keep cool. if you have a waist then fitted cotton shirt and Capri pants or something?
