Hairdye advice please

Over the last yr and a bit I have had my hair lifted from over dyed black to highlighted blonde. It's been a long and slow process but has been fine until the last few visits.
My hair is very grey, it grows grey and has done since I was mid twenties.
I want it to be blonde, I loved the highlights but they weren't enough.
I've spent a small fortune by having it done every four weeks and being very loyal to my hairdresser but I'm stuck.

She has told me I can't be all over the colour of the highlights, I am not really clear why but now I have lovely blonde bits but loads of grey intermittently where the foils don't go. I hate it and I feel self conscious of it. This isn't the look I wanted and when I raised it with her she just said it's my only option.
Why is this? Anyone got any ideas?
Last wk I spent £65 on colour that has left me with more grey than ever and I'm so fed up.

Tempted to just dye it myself today as feel so old and down.

Any advice? New hairdresser maybe?

Thanks

I'm not a hairdresser but posted something similar for advice a few weeks back and got no response so I'm bookmarking firstly.
Secondly - I had my hair stripped from black last summer - I got a full head colour but had to be a gingery/blond colour at first. The next time the hairdresser got it lighter.
I have to dye it myself now so I've tried many different blondes but getting lighter each time. I can not get the complete grey thick stripe that I have in the front of my hair to be the same colour. I'm fed up with it now and often want to throw a dark colour back on.
I would say it isn't your only option and to go and have a chat with another hairdresser.

Watching with interest.

A full head colour would be harder to maintain as the re growth would need doing more regularly. Highlights are preferable as the grey hair is blended in as opposed to having a full block colour. Additionally when you colour roots you have to be very careful not to re colour the blonde as you will end up with patchy hair and potentially damaged hair. What percentage of grey do you have? I am an ex hairdresser!

I have a lot of grey, the blonde is great but the grey is more noticeable than ever and I feel that instead of solving the problem it just looks worse.
I don't care if I have to have it done regularly if I'm getting what I want. As it is I've been going every 4 weeks anyway
What do you advise?

Agreed as you should get what you want. I would advise that you ask for a full head tint but ask to have some foils put through the top with a different tone of blonde as having a full head of tint with no other tone can sometimes look too hard. Having another shade of blonde will break it up. You are the paying customer so should have want you wish.

Some hairdressers do not like to go from foils to block colour as the re growth is def more noticeable meaning it has to be coloured more regularly. However, as long as you are aware of this then that's fine.

If she's not happy to do this then maybe try a change of hairdressers. Another fresh pair of eyes may see your hair differently and offer a solution. Good luck

Ps that was my first ever mums net post!!

I'm a hairdresser. If you are happy to be a full head colour I dont see why she can't do it. How grey are you?? If you are a very light white grey if you have a light enough blonde your roots will just blend through until you feel you need it doing anyway.

If a slightly darker grey then still have the blonde highlights but once foils are in have a lovely warm blonde painted on the rest. I do this to lots of my clients with good results. They have it done roughly about the same length of time you would have foils done.

If you are not happy seeing grey at all then these tow options are the better solution for you.

Hope this helps GrinSmile

Thank you! All very helpful.
I'll give her the option to do what I want and if she still refuses I'll go elsewhere.
Much appreciated
