Best product for getting lovely wavy hair?!

Zola1980 · 02/04/2015 16:53

I straighten my hair every day and am sick of it! So today i decided to leave it au natrel, apart from a quick scrunch with some curling gel stuff that i found in my drawer and have never used! Simply left it to dry and clipped the middle bit back as the front sections are definitely more straight than wavy.

I have never stepped foot outside before without straight hair, does this look too messy to be seen in public - is it more kinky than wavy?! Any recommendations for products that would make it look better?! I just CBA anymore with the GHDs every single day!

Not sure if the photos are showing up or not?!

I think it looks fine!

I have long hair and often have it wavy by plaiting it losely in a morning and then taking the bobble out once I get to work.

Mine is wavy. I wash as normal and then just before I get out of the shower, I put my head down and rinse hair with cold water. Keep head down and scrunch the water out. Use cotton pillowcase to wrap hair in. Once I've got dressed I put some mousse through it. Then wrap hair in a dry pillowcase. Sometimes I'll dry it with a hairdryer after a while using one of those diffuser things.
I found products like serum and gel things tend to weigh the curls down and leave a horrible texture.

It's Wella shockwaves curls and waves mousse.
Oh and hair looks lovely!

Definitely not 'too messy'. It's really nice.

I stopped straightening after years and let my hair do it's own naturally want thing. Feels really good. I like frizz ease secret agent perfecting cream ran through the ends with fingers. Makes it shinier.

Give it a couple of weeks and you'll start noticing that your ends feel healthier and there's less damage. (Not that you have any on those pics but that's what I noticed with mine.)

I like the microfibres hair turbans too for helping it dry faster without disturbing the waves. I have long thick hair that takes forever to dry though.

Like this m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=/en/Soap-Gloryâ„¢-Hair-Turbanâ„¢_1242746/ but you can get them everywhere now. Even supermarkets near the flannels etc.

It looks really lovely! Mine is naturally curly/wavy but can't get the sort of wave you have there which is really pretty : )

mammuzzamia · 03/04/2015 10:58

I hate the ironed straight look nowadays.

Looks lovely to me, absolutely fine.

Kundry · 03/04/2015 11:14

Mine is fine and wavy - possible a bit more wavier than yours. Yours looks really nice in your photo.

The first thing it the cut - you need blunt layers, no feathering.

After that shampoo not massively important (although I do think Fibrology does add volume), conditioner should be for fine hair or volume or curls - ideally the lot but annoyingly smooth is a much bigger market.

After that some sort of oil or anti-frizz serum or curling cream - don't think which makes much difference but using one does encourage waves and discourage frizz.

Most importantly is drying naturally or with a diffuser. Being very lazy I dry mine in the car by turning the heaters up to the max and occassionally running my hands through it and scrunching it. I can end up with masses of curls doing this while on it's own, I get a wave more like yours.

WhoKnowsWhereTheChocolateGoes · 03/04/2015 11:28

It looks very similar to mine, I don't tend to use any products as they all seem to pull the waves out and make them lanky but I do use curl friendly shampoo and conditioner (silicone free and low sulphate), use a towel turban to get the worst wet out then dry naturally. I do blast the top sections with a dryer to lift the roots, shape the fringe but leave the bulk of it to dry naturally. I also do the car heater/fingers thing on the way to work. The other thing is to avoid brushing. I brush the top layer lightly down to about my ears to smooth it but then just run fingers through the lengths to untangle knots in the curls. Mine is below the shoulders long layers with a long sideswept fringe.

Thanks all! I will take a look at some of the recommendations and may brave it this weekend :)

OH doesn't like it though!

Curls are nice but not keen on the clipped back bit...

Kundry · 03/04/2015 11:56

WhoKnows glad to find another car heater person Easter Smile

Forgot about not brushing - I only ever use a wide-toothed comb.

I also don't care about my OH's opinions of it Easter Grin

mammuzzamia · 03/04/2015 12:26

I like the clipped back bit

WhoKnowsWhereTheChocolateGoes · 03/04/2015 17:39

I clip back my fringe quite a bit, it is very unruly and gets in my eyes. I don't like not having one though.

Zola1980 · 03/04/2015 18:09

Without the clip I have a definite parting which looks a bit naff with the waves. If I could master kirby grips to do a quiff type thing that might be better but I just don't get how to use them.... Weird I know!
