A good diet/supplements help. And a good hair routine. I am a big believer in regular hair treatments. I used Elastictizer by Phillip Kingsley twice a week. I also found Liz Earle botanical shine shampoo did make my hair shine.

Alternate using deep cleansing shampoo with silicones. Use either end of the spectrum too much and your hair will be dull.

I've just put a semi permanent colour on mine and just a couple of shades darker no one has really noticed the colour change but a friend commented how shiny my hair was.

Thanks for answers.

rosie, I shall try those. Can I get them in the supermarket?

Ballroom, any particular recommendations?

Buttwing, I shall resort to that if I have to, but not really keen on having to maintain a colour. Thank you!

What about tools like straighteners?

Try using cool/cold water as a last rinse, apparently it makes the hair shaft lie flatter, which makes hair smoother and shinier ( i've always done this, and have lots of comments re. the shine)

Mines shiny. I have never heard of an elasticiser. I just Shampoo, condition and use mousse. I use a barrel brush when blowdrying. It sort of polishes the hair, my hairdresser friend tells me.

Cold water rinse - definately helps. Our old shower ran for 60 seconds on cold once it was switched off (I kept my head under the water) new one doesn't. I've noticed the difference since Sad

Liz Earle shampoo is lovely
Phillip Kingsley Elasticiser - It does have a cumulative effect and needs to go on damp hair (I leave overnight)
I bought a litre (QVC) last year, still using it so good value

My DD uses a dry oil (her hair is long) to keep it smooth.

My hair has improved massively since I've started using argan oil and ditching my straighteners for a babyliss big hair. It's really shiny and diff now.

When I had a straight bob I used to use a spray on shine. I can't remember what brand. Lots of brands do them and they are quite successful on straight hair

A good cleansing shampoo to strip your hair of products, wash out thoroughly then condition and wash out thoroughly again. Any residue left on your hair will make it dull. Don't use any styling products only accoutrements - when blow drying it try and do it directly from the shower, the longer you let it air dry the more chance of frizz/fly-away. Try and dry it in two sections - an undersection and a top section... Aim the nozzle down along the hair and brush as this will help the hair lie flat and increase the chance of a smooth, shiny surface. A very good straightener can tame hair after drying but use them lightly and only where needed, I still use GHDs but have a classic pair from at least 10 years ago and hear there are better brands now.

Don't rub the toerl over your hair when its wet
Don't brush your hairhair to detangle when wet, comb only but style with brush
Use olive oil on dry hair and leave in over night or a few hours at home, this is cheap and as good as a lot of expensive products in beautiful packaging
Vinegar rinse along with cold water final rinse.
Trim every four to six weeks

Over time your hair will be in fan condition, but it may take the life cycle of your hair - however long it is and takes to grow

Cannot recommend OGX shampoo and conditioner highly enough. I love the coconut water ones and I used the kukui ones last night and today a couple of people have asked if I've done something to my hair because it's all shiny! Grin

Wrap your hair in coconut oil once a week and leave for a few hours.

I second the coconut oil treatment...I have frizzy/curly hair but often wear it smoother, and the only thing I have ever found to make it look shiny it cononut oil, either the raw stuff as a treatment, or a hair mask with lots of coconut oil in it. Revolutionary!

*argan! Not sure where argali came from!

I have coconut oil in; I shall try that too! Thanks.

I started using the Toni and Guy Cleanse and Nourish shampoo and conditioner combo (I got the one for blonde hair but they do lines for other hair colours and just normal non-colour specific ones). I got the 2 on offer at boots for ÂŁ10. I have noticed a huge difference in my hair. I use it everyday/every other day and my hair is so much more shinier and manageable, so a big thumbs up from me. Also incorporating starflower oil capsules and cod liver oil supplements will also help the shine from the inside.
