Monstrous hormonal chin spots - help!

I'm getting HUGE hormonal, 'blind' spots on my chin every month now (I'm mid 40s, suspect I'm perimenopausal). They last for several days as they never come to a head - just a big, red lump on my chin - and look awful as they're tough to cover up.
Is there anything I can do to prevent/treat them? I'd appreciate any advice

Me too! But I think it's because I am not on the pill anymore. I am using a Nip+Fab deep cleansing cream as a leave on layer every night, which seems to help them go down, but takes ages. They feel about five times the size they really aren't! I was finding using an exfoliating toner was helping, but I am on holiday, using loads of sunscreen, which I don't think is helping. I am thinking about getting the Clinique Acne treatment BB cream, and seeing if that helps.

I had these too and have had great success in using Hibiscrub as a cleanser. I diluted 50/50 with water and use it morning and night. At night I follow it with La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo and use LRP moisturiser. The hibiscrub is really not drying and cheap too £5 for 500 ml. Google hibiscrub + acne. I read about it on someone's blog as being suggested by a derm. If I'm wearing makeup I use jojoba oil to cleanse then a double cleanse with hibiscrub.

I'm also only using products that are non comedogenic such as LRP.

Also, supplement wise, fish oils and L-Lysine and daily berocca. I was taking the L-Lysine for preventing cold sores and discovered by accident that for some people it can be effective against acne.

Hope that helps. Hormonal acne's horrible.

This regime was my last effort to tackle it myself before going to the GP and it's been a good 4 months now.

Take vitamin B6 daily, maybe 100mg.

What worked for me: cut dairy, take zinc tabs and use JanMarini Bioglycolic lotion at night.

No advice but I've woken up to a tender chin that's about to erupt. Not fun at all having been there before twenty years ago. I've been using the neutrogena blackhead stuff as I also get lots of blackheads but it's definitely not helping this month .

I recently found that calamine lotion helped dry out and get rid of my large chin spots. Not a miracle cure but within a few days.

I posted the other day about trying Voltarol gel on a massive spot I had. It definitely helped with the pain and thus the urge to prod. Not sure it made it go any quicker though b

I would recommend to try Chaste Tree or Dong Quai tinctures, or them both blended. They are great for hormonal balancing and help to clear the skin. Also oil cleansing method is my favourite to cleanse and nourish the skin, followed by camellia oil for moisturizing.

QueenCardigan · 01/04/2015 14:13

this I should try that. There's something deeply satisfying about prodding even though it hurts Confused

I used to get these. My GP gave me a topical antibiotic in a rollerball dispenser. I just paint it on every morning and evening. It has done the trick when nothing else did.

mimrammum · 01/04/2015 22:22

Thank you all! Lots here to try out. I'll let you know how it goes

I get this too and I became desperate last summer when i got 5 Massive Chin spots which lasted for weeks. I spent a fortune and my skin was getting no better, so i decided to go back to basics and get some Sudacreme. It is meant as an acne tratement and its helped my skin so much.

Cleanse skin, let skin dry properly then add a blob on the spot and leave over night. It seems to shrink and soften the lump. In the mornings I add it too but obviously rub it in.

I've been doing this for 4 months, and at the moment I'm spot free!

I second Hibiscrub. Amazing and has sorted out my spotty chin.

Bluestocking · 01/04/2015 22:51

The only thing that has made any difference to my chin spots is cutting out gluten. It's quite miraculous. I was getting them every couple of weeks for the last few years. I cut out wheat in October and have only had a couple of small ones since then.

Juliecloud · 01/04/2015 23:03

Have you changed your foundation or anything? My skin was pretty good for years, then I started using a new foundation that was THE perfect colour for me, and within a few weeks, I had terrible spots. They went away when I stopped using the foundation. I was gutted as it was meant to be non comedogenic but I'm pretty sure that's what caused my spots.

Lovewearingjeans · 04/04/2015 22:35

I can only wear Double Wear foundation for one offs, as it definitely blocks my pores.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/04/2015 23:46

Dalacin T lotion from the doctor.

GlitterySparkles · 04/04/2015 23:52

I feel for you, I really do. I was suddenly getting lots of large cyst type spots on my forehead, chin and nose, I looked terrible as I kept picking at them. I tried all the suggestions from mn, they didn't help. I even went on a spa weekend and sat in the sauna/steam room for hours to try and clear up my skin. Reflexology didn't do a thing either, but felt bloody lovely. So I went and bought the la roche posey effaclar duo range as recommended on here; the face wash, toner and moisturiser set. A-ma-zing. My skin went from so greasy (kids always asking why I was sweating when it was oily it was that bad), to dry and spots all cleared up. I know for a fact it's worked cos once a month my back is covered in spots, but not my face anymore! I've just switched to the Avene range to see if that makes a difference, skin still great. I'm very happy. I hope that helps x
