I am currently wearing a 36C bra. Have done for ages.
They dont fit at all. My boobs fall out of the bottom. I am rather small of nork since losing weight. My top half is a size 8 to 10.
MIL has given me a £100 next voucher to go and get some new bras and pants.

How the fuck do i measure myself? Without a bra my boobs are so flat and saggy.

Please help

thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk/p/fitting-advice.html?m=1 - tells you how to measure. you are almost certainly not a 36 back so be prepared for a smaller back size and bigger cup size

BatCrapCrazy · 30/03/2015 19:32

Thankyou! I'll get the tape measure out tonight. I doubt I'll be a bigger cup size. There's nowt there x

Cup sizes vary by band - have a look next time you are in a shop and you will see that for example, a 30C has cups which are vastly smaller than those on a 40C. If you go down in the band then you have to increase the cup size just to maintain the same tit-holding capacity :)

You're almost certainly not anything like a 36C, especially given you are falling out the bottom. To give you an idea, M&S fit me in a 36F. I'm a 30HH. So just a tad off Hmm

BatCrapCrazy · 31/03/2015 09:42

Oooh ok. Does anyone know how accurate next bra sizing is? I'm a bit dubious as I'm currently wearing a size 10 pair on topshop jeans but a size 6 in next is too big.

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/03/2015 11:07

It's not so much the sizing that is the problem as the measuring techniques. Many moons ago, when bras weren't nearly as stretchy, it was necessary to add inches to the underbust measurement. It isn't anymore, but a lot of shops still measure this way - partially because it means they can wedge more women in to their "standard" sizes.

In terms of Next bras, I'm sized out but as far as I know the sizing is broadly ok but can be a bit iffy as the quality control isn't on a par with the proper bra companies.

DamsonInDistress · 31/03/2015 11:29

Have you measured yet OP? If you're an 8-10 I'm going to put money on you being something like a 28 E/F.

StaceyAndTracey · 31/03/2015 11:31

Well done on the weight loss

You have a great MIL. But spend the next voucher on clothes and buy new bras somewhere else . If you feel in need of more support them you need a better quality bra .

Don't worry about the saggginess - most of us are not as perky as we were. Weight loss, pregnancy - they take their toll. With the right bra you will look great I promise

StaceyAndTracey · 31/03/2015 11:32

Oh and my top half is a 10 and I wear a 30 back bra

BatCrapCrazy · 31/03/2015 11:41

Haven't measured yet - can't find the tape measure. Will get one in tesco later.
Where would you recommend i go for new bras?

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/03/2015 11:48

In terms of where to buy it will depend on what size you come out at - many shops don't stock smaller band sizes. I'd normally suggest Bravissimo (also excellent fitting), John Lewis (generally ok fitting and selection), Debenhams (not great fitting but good selection), House of Fraser, Selfridges, Leia, Rigby and Peller (pricey!). Plus there are lots of online places

StaceyAndTracey · 31/03/2015 11:51

Maybe it's just my local next, but they only have stupid lacy one with frills and weirdly shaped preformed cups ( fine for the bedroom but no bloody use under everyday clothes ) and thin teen type bras with no support

Can you use the vouchers online or does it have to be in store ?

Anyway I'm not a bra guru so should probably shut up Grin

BoobooChild · 31/03/2015 12:01

Your mil sounds so lovely.

I recently went from wearing a 34C to a 30DD. I think I might need 28/30E but the 30DD fits me better than I ever imagined. I used the bra guru measuring and got 28E but 30DD was the closest size I could get without going to a proper bra shop. I was dubious about it too, but trust me it's amazing when you see how it really works! I can't wait to get myself to a bravissimo and get the exact size I need!

I went from a 32A to a 30DD with the revelation measuring and the difference is amazing!!! Still not found the perfect bra but rue all those long years in that bra size thinking boobs are 'tiny' and I'm flat chested (not that I care) to now having all the breast (ie all the bits to the side and underneath) in the bra and the bra cups having room while supporting at the same time.

Also has taken years off Grin

onepieceoflollipop · 31/03/2015 12:36

I am a size 8/10 and used to wear a 34 or 36c, because I thought d cups were massive. 36 c too loose on the band, 34c too small in the cup.
When I first went to bravissimo I was a 32dd, shape has changed a bit now and am now a 30e. If I needed a cheaper bra, e.g. I have an M&S sports bra, I try for a 32d as 30 is hard to get hold of in a lot of places, also 32 often stops at c/d cup.

onepieceoflollipop · 31/03/2015 12:39

By the way, Next stock loads more online than they do in the actual shop, but I have never had bras from there. Tried a cossie on once and it was v skimpy, but I find their tops/t shirts very big generally.

StopTheFog · 31/03/2015 18:44

Can you get to a Bravissimo? Getting fitted by a specialist is really worth it. M&S are crap, and I've had bad fittings in the other department stores I've tried.

BaronessBomburst · 31/03/2015 18:48

Watching with interest as I'm trying to sort out DM!

Lucylloyd13 · 01/04/2015 14:41

Sizes and fits do vary. Arrive at a larger next, with a friend, grab a fistful of bras, explain to the changing room attendant what you are doing, and let your friend act as a runner until you have worked out what suits you best.

There is no replacement for trying them on. Go for fit first, then the sexiest, comfiest bra hat fits!

Good luck

BatCrapCrazy · 02/04/2015 13:39

I'm 32 inches under my boobs, and 37inches over them leaning forward. What size is that?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 02/04/2015 14:09

32DD

OllyBJolly · 02/04/2015 14:35

Go to an independent for a truly expert fitting. Completely changed my shape - went from an uncomfortable 36A (M&S) to a happy 30DD.

Apatite1 · 02/04/2015 14:38

I went from 36DD to 32H Shock

I find curvy kate bras fit me well.

Missymum6 · 02/04/2015 14:41

If your buying underwired from next, beware that the back sizes come up rather small (im a 30 in m and s and 34 in next.) On the plus side next range of boost bras are brillant, I lost a lot of weight and my boobs (sob) after my first and next bras made it look like I still had some (and looked uplifted Grin x good luck bra shopping xx

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/04/2015 16:17

As a baseline, start with a 32DD and work from there. Make sure you read all the info about how a bra should fit so you know what to look for.
