Trainers/Sneakers?

CheersMedea · 30/03/2015 13:41

I want to get some trainers for casual wear - not for running.

Ideally I'd like that sort of snug cosy fit you get with running trainers - ie. that have arch support.

Has anyone got any suggestions? For arch support ones, I can only find running ones with mesh (I hate mesh!) that are superlight or trail shoes.

I don't want converse/canvas shoes as they have no arch support.

I used to have a great pair of Sketchers but they seem to have cheapened all their designs now and only have memory foam and no proper arch support.

Any ideas?

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite trainers.

Right now I'm wearing FitFlop trainers. I find them good and supportive. like a runner but doesn't look too runnery and more supportive than converse.

CheersMedea · 30/03/2015 16:06

Thanks Happy Medium - I'm looking for something that doesn't interfere with walking motion. Fitflops are designed with that built in fit rocking motion aren't they?

I just want some solid comfortable arch supporting trainers. More difficult than you'd think apparently.

Hi CheersMedea, I have the same issue with 'casual' trainers; I used to wear converse all the time but now need decent arch support. I found a pair of PF-Flyers' in TK Maxx, they are great but quite hard to find in the UK unfortunately. But if you can find a pair I would recommend them!

The other solution is insoles, I have a couple of pairs of these Sole Control ones that I put in whatever shoes I am wearing. Obviously the shoes need to be roomy enough to accommodate the insoles but I find they save my feet and increase the choice of shoes I can buy (always a good thing Smile). I use them sucessfully in a pair of converse high-tops (which I find works better than low-tops as more room for the insole).

CheersMedea · 30/03/2015 17:37

Thanks PocPoc. I've tried insoles but they wear out quickly and don't give that same super-snug hugging your feet support of trainers with arch support.

I will look for the PF-Flyers though. Thanks for the suggestion.

ThePocPocHunt - I looked at your linked site for PF Flyer. Do they all have arch support? They look a bit converse style canvas to me.

I have leather PF Flyers. They look Ike Converse, but have arch support.

BikeRunSki · 30/03/2015 17:52

These? they have a memory foam footbed.

ThePocPocHunt · 31/03/2015 09:18

I have leather PF Flyers too BikeRunSki and find them really comfy, although maybe the arch support isn't quite as good as in running trainers.

One other suggestion Cheers - have you looked at Crocs? Bear with me.... I don't mean the clogs, they actually do loads of styles of shoes and sandals now. I have a pair of these sandals and they are SO comfy, flat sandals are usually quite uncomfortable for me but these are brilliant.

These trainers maybe? Although limited sizes left I think.

CheersMedea · 31/03/2015 09:55

PF Flyers sound worth checking out then.

Bikerunski memory foam is the reason I went off Sketchers. It is cheaper way of making an apparently comfortable shoe but provides no real arch support.

It's not the comfy feel I'm bothered about. It's the snug support feel.

Paul Green do a leather 'converse' type trainer/shoe. I got mine in sale a couple of years ago- they are expensive. I love them, really comfortable, great quality and they look great.

here

PrimalLass · 31/03/2015 10:40

I have a pair of Paul Green boots and they are so comfy. I now really want these:

Tanaqui · 31/03/2015 10:48

Fitflop trainers aren't "rocky" like some of those type if shoes -they are very comfy but not snug on the arch. Have you tried any if the walking shoe type things, like merrell?

CheersMedea · 31/03/2015 13:05

I'm not after arch support generally - just specifically in a pair of casual trainers (ie. not running shoes). I've looked at walking shoes but they look a bit "walking" shoes rather than trainers.

That sketchers sort of look is my ideal really.

No idea why its so hard! I will check out Paul Green

I love those Paul Green's Primal Lass! Not that keen on the colour but the basic design - trainer but not running is perfect.

I like these (Same shoe different colour) but the reference to the insole being leather makes me think they are probably flat inside and not having arch support.

What about the New Balance ones that are in fashion at the moment?

Trainers/Sneakers?
PrimalLass · 31/03/2015 13:43

There's a navy leather pair too.

I also like the silver.

daftyburd · 31/03/2015 14:49

I have New Balance 574 in bright turquoise. Sort of 70s running shoe style. I have flat feet and wear orthotic insoles. I find mine very comfy.

atonofwashing · 31/03/2015 22:30

Have you trie eccoshoes.co.uk

Their shoes and trainers seems to offer a bit more comfort, without being too close to the dark side of shoes that I have to wear because my feet are crap

Good luck

islandmomhere · 04/04/2015 07:24

I stumbled upon this thread CheersMedea because I am looking for comfortable trainers too! Wow.. I like the Paul Green shoes, PrimalLass. Looks so fashionable and won't hurt the precious mummy feet. *needtosaveup!

CheersMedea · 04/04/2015 13:50

Thanks for the many suggestions.
I bought some Nike Air Max 90 like these which are more solid than a mesh running trainer:

www.selfridges.com/en/nike-air-max-90-trainers_726-10036-2005422222/

I've also ordered these:

Dolce & Gabbana

I quite liked these too but wasn't sure:

Jimmy Choo

bonzo77 · 04/04/2015 13:53

Was going to suggest Nike air max. I like the snug supportive feel and a sole that is not totally flat (like converse). They are my every day shoes and might treat myself to another pair

CheersMedea · 04/04/2015 14:11

Funny you should say that about another pair Bonzo but I've just bought a second pair in a different colour!

I really like them! They are still a bit more "trainer-y" than I would like and prefer my old Sketchers but they are indeed very comfortable.
