Hormones, DD and her hair!

Morning

DD is 10 and her hair has hit the greasy stage. We've managed to sort out dandruff and now it's turned greasy. It's almost waist length and for the past 5 or 6 years it has only needed washing once or twice a week at most.
It's the new hair on top of her head that is greasy, the older hair could do with conditioning instead.

So does anyone have any suggestions, tips or product recommendations we could try?

TIA

Watching this one with interest, my dd is 11 nearly 12 and she also suffers from this and has beautiful hair that reaches her shoulder bones. She doesn't brush it well either so I am often having to deal with annoying matted messes

They have to wash their hair more often as they get closer to puberty (and beyond).

Are you sure she's getting all the conditioner out? Dd's hair looks greasy when she hasn't rinsed it properly. Maybe only condition the lower half of the hair, and not the hair on/near the scalp?

My DD definitely does not rinse properly at times, and she tends to use far too much aswell. Have sent her back to the bathroom a few times to remedy it. This is probably where "our" problem lies

Will try to rinse better and perhaps a few times. Normally use a spray on the bottom of the hair, rather than all of the hair.
My hair gets greasy sometimes and I have a rota of different shampoos that I use and frequency that I wash my hair depending on the time of year and what it's like.

Dry shampoo is fab, and adds volume at the roots. I use Batiste.

I have mega greasy hair and post pg hormones send it ballastic

Best options hair fix - they do a pre shampoo which doesn't foam but my god it gets the grease. Useful for a once a week/ one a fortnight clean out. Not really suitable for every day use

You also might want to consider cutting her hair a bit. Waist length hair is lovely, but I imagine washing/drying it can be quite a production - so maybe not done as much as needed?

This probably isn't helpful as I'm assuming your dds hair isn't dyed but I noticed when growing my dye out that the natural hair at the top was much greasier. I second a dry shampoo, they're life savers. And definitely making sure that all shampoo and conditioner is washed out properly.

My hair goes greasy so quickly. Since a young teen, on the advise of my hairdresser, iv conditioned before shampooing and it's really helped. The hair still gets the moisturising it needs and the shampoo makes sure there's no excess condition left which makes my hair look greasy. Also dry shampoo as mentioned above.

mrswolf · 29/03/2015 15:20

This shampoo works well.

Theas18 · 29/03/2015 15:29

Mrswoolf I should hope it is a £6.20.

I'd suggest cutting her hair a bit shorter and .... Whispers quietly.... Dry shampoo to the roots every other day rather than washing every day.

I use Herbal Essences Fresh Balance with tea tree oil in, £3.89 for a big bottle from Boots

Oo I wouldn't use dry shampoo, there's some concern it causes hair loss, and my cousin (in her teens) stopped using it as she thought it might be thinning her hair

Stop using conditioner and see if that helps when I go without my hair is def less greasy (and I only use it on the mid lengths and ends usually)
