Personal shopper - what to ask for?

One and only time I saw one I got a bit of a telling off for not knowing what I was looking for.

So, I guess what I want is some key wardrobe classics and some tops that are a bit different to jazz a pair of jeans up with. Talking of jeans, what else should I be thinking of? I've fallen too far into tights, skirts and boots trap and want to change this year.

What would you wise people ask for? Help!

I think it's helpful to explain what the clothes you want are for: many people would use a PS for an occasion, or to refresh a working wardrobe etc. if you're looking purely for casual day to day wear, then specify that with some background on your lifestyle: young children, lots of lunches, sporty lifestyle, whatever.

So in terms of wardrobe classics, what will these be worn for? Work? Day? And the tops with jeans, would these be going out tops, day tops, tops to wear in the garden? winter? Summer? If you're looking for bottoms, explain you've got into a rut of tights skirts and boots and want to try something new.

Thank you Carrie!

I can see now why I was a bit of a bloody pain before.

So, I work from home so I dont need any 'work' stuff. That said, I feel most comfortable in clothes that have some construct to them. But yes, day to day wear. No kids but I have 3 dogs so outside of walking them I would like to try to look reasonably groomed! I easily fall into the trap of looking like a bloody slob - work from home, walk dogs, go back to desk, all in tracky bums and fleeces etc etc Blush

In terms of classics - a bloody good pair of jeans, a couple of really good shirts, a killer pair of heels. That sounds really boring. There must be more??

Tell her what you've told us but also say you would like her to surprise you with some items that suit your lifestyle but you wouldn't necessarily pick yourself.

I don't think you were a pain before, folk wouldn't need personal shoppers if they knew exactly what suited them in every situation. They should ask the right questions and then come out with a mixture of styles to gauge your tastes.
