First signs of grey - home or salon colour?

Hi, my hair is very dark brown and wavy/curly depending on how I style it. It is a red-brown rather than a black/blue-brown IYSWIM & I have never dyed it. I am noticing white and grey hairs appearing at the front (as well as a clump in my eyebrow ) and wondered where to start re colouring? Is home dye realistic for someone inexperienced? How should I pick a shade? Or is it straight to the hairdressers to spend money I can't really afford Hmm

Thanks. I had a look in Boots and was totally overwhelmed. I take it I need permanent? And is it just hit or miss when it comes to picking a shade. None looked like my hair! Maybe I should take a photo with me?

i use red henna, my dark brown is really shiny and the grey is a lovely reddish colour, it looks like I have got highlights, even my hairdresser loves it

Downside - it takes a long time and is messy, otherwise its perfect

Superdrug have an own brand wash in-wash out shampoo which I use to blend first greys. It works best if you leave in for 15 minutes before rinsing. It's about 1.50 for a small bottle. I think it's called Colour Effects.

Oh, I may try the shampoo as sounds least scary! Do I need to be careful with it? Have fear that I will dye my ears or something Smile

Embrace the grey if you don't want to change your hair colour - it's not obligatory to dye grey hair!

I love my emerging grey hairs. If I colour my hair, I use henna blocks from lush, and I only do it when I want to change my hair colour.

I use a home dye that lasts 24 washes (Clairol nice n easy) and do it every month. Its really not a big effort

Thanks. I will go back and look at semi permanent then, until I get more confident Smile

The superdrrug shampoo won't stain your skin. To get the best effect I suggest you leave it on for longer than the instructions say. 15-20 minutes works for me. I don't use it every time I wash my hair.
