Can someone recommend me an eyeshadow primer for oily lids?

My eyeshadow creases in about an hour! I've tried the Pixi one (which I would recommend as an under eye concealer, but did nothing for me as a primer) and a Rimmel one which was rubbish. My friend suggested the Too Faced one but it's so £££. She doesn't have the oily lid problem so I'm reluctant to spend so much on something that might not work for me. Are there any other oily lidded gals out there?

Lanacane anti chafing gel?
I use it as a primer when I go out in the evenings on my face (though never tried on my eyelids I don't think... ) after recommendations on MN.

WineAndIntrigue · 26/03/2015 11:48

Thoroughly recommend Urban Decay's Primer Potion. It's £16 and I find that each tube lasts exactly a year (using pretty much every day) so I usually find one under the tree at Christmas! You can also get the travel size one to try it which is only about £8/£9. Like you I have oily lids, and I have also tried a Rimmel one which I hated (white tube with a red lid?) and the MUA one which I also didn't like.

Nabootique · 26/03/2015 11:58

I've heard about the Lanacane as a primer, but I don't think it would be heavy duty enough for my lids! I have tried my facial primer on my eyelids and it doesn't do the trick, unfortunately, but I love it too much for my face to change it (Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer, in case anyone is interested).

I'll look into the Urban Decay one. I have heard good things about it, but I'm always worried people using it don't have the oily lid issue so it might not be good for that! Glad I'm not the only one WineAndintrigue! And yes, it was that Rimmel one. It was bloody pants. It creased on it's own when I first tested it, didn't even bother trying it with eyeshadow!

The Laura mercier eye primer is supposed to be amazing for oily lids. Not tried it yet but is on my to buy list
Have tried the Urban Decay one but tbh found that the MUA one was just as good and a fraction of the price

Lottapianos · 26/03/2015 12:54

Urban Decay Primer Potion all the way. I used to have very oily lids and terrible eye shadow creasing issues. Now I use UDPP every day and everything on my eyelids stays put, and has done even through rain showers, sweating and sobbing. Its bulletproof. And it sounds a bit pricey but a tube lasts me over a year.

daftyburd · 26/03/2015 12:55

I have tried Lanacane on my lids but the grease did break through. Slightly better when I used a little setting powder over it. I bought the Urban Decay travel size after it was recommended on a thread on here. Had it a month and been pleased with results. My cats eye liner has not ended up near my brows yet!

gingerfluffball · 26/03/2015 13:13

Apparently Elf has an eyelid primer just as good as Urban Decay but a fraction of the price. Haven't tried either though.

leedy · 26/03/2015 13:16

Urban Decay primer potion or one of the Origins cream shadows in a neutral shade - as someone else with creasy eyelids of doom, I am completely devoted to these and they Do. Not. Budge.

Nabootique · 26/03/2015 13:59

Thanks all. Looks like UDPP is the winner! I've just been looking at Vivianna Does Makeup (love her) and she is also an oily lidder, apparently! She rates NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, which is a bit pricier than the UDPP. Might see if I can get samples from somewhere.

I do recommend the Origins cream shadows anyway, btw - they're the only thing I can use without any primer and will actually stay on, and, as I said, the neutral shades (there's a shimmer and a matte, can't remember the shade names) also work brilliantly as a base for other shadow.

Apatite1 · 26/03/2015 14:04

Edward bess eyeshadow base works for me. It gets lots of good reviews.

Nabootique · 26/03/2015 14:12

I do love a shimmery neutral leedy so might give that a go.

Apatite1 I've never heard of Edward Bess!

I like Mac Paint Pot in Painterly, but they have loads of colours. It is a cream eye shadow which sets and last really well.

Most powder shadows crease on me, so I am switching to cream shadows such as the Mac ones, Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks and the Chanel Illusion d'ombre. They all last very well on my oily lids.
There are loads of brands which do these products, both cheap and expensive.

Nabootique · 26/03/2015 14:49

Thanks for the tips Carpaccio. I've just bought a Maybelline cream one. I really like the colour but still find it creases. At least with the cream ones it's easier to just have a quick blend and then it's okay again, whereas powder seems much harder to budge around like that.

Also recommend UDPP I have slick eyelids lol and any eyeshadow lasts from morning til bedtime (and the next day I found once!)

I have a tube from years ago only just finished it recently - still works despite being an old tube and no irritation issues :/

leedy · 26/03/2015 15:00

The Origins shimmery neutral is called GingerZing, btw.

YossarianLives · 27/03/2015 08:15

I absolutely love the E.L.F eyelid primer mentioned uptrend, it is about £1.50 well it was when I bulk-bought 10. I find it much better than UDPP which I've also tried for my oily lids! Smile

Judydreamsofhorses · 27/03/2015 09:31

The Nars one works brilliantly. I know a lot of people rave about Urban Decay, but on me it just added an extra layer of creasing and only lasted a couple of hours. The Nars can take me 12 hours easily - it's like a miracle! (Oh, and one tube lasts me six months-ish, so the cost evens out.)

GingerLDN · 29/03/2015 02:17

Urban decay, I love it!

FlumptyDumpty · 29/03/2015 02:33

Bare Minerals. The best by far of all I've tried, and I have the oiliest eyelids in the world. Get creased eyeshadow and black lines from my mascarared lashes in a couple of hours without it. With it, nothing all day.

squoosh · 29/03/2015 02:51

The Nars one is better than Urban Decay. Will last for months and months so even though it's expensive it more than earns its keep.

Yarp · 29/03/2015 07:20

The Urban Decay one is good - I have oily lids

KittyB52 · 01/04/2015 20:05

I used to use the Urban Decay one and it definitely worked. However, it did emphasise my crepey lids and made shadows harder to blend. I now also have the problem of hooded/droopy eyelids (I am sooo hottt) so don't bother with eyeshadow as it is hidden most of the time. Easter Sad

Enjoyingtheattention · 01/04/2015 23:54

MAC piantpot in painterly is a great eye lid primer.

southeastastra · 02/04/2015 07:59

was going to say nars, try some out at the counter before you buy
