Help - suits for Court setting

My work is court related and I'm returning after some time out. I have thrown out my old suits which looked really dated, but I'm unsure as to what to buy now. I love the 1940's style cuts and could wear a dress and jacket as well as a traditional suit. Any recommendations wrt style / colours please?

I think it depends on the Court and your role. In the lower courts those who aren't lawyers wear a lot of dresses and cardigans IME, social workers and guardians rarely in suits at all.
If your role is more formal or in the higher courts then black grey or navy are more appropriate. I do have a lovely grey suit with a slight polka dot which was from Hobbs a few seasons ago.
I do rate Hobbs for suits as they often do the same fabric year on year do you can add to the suit.

Thank you, Superherosidekick. The code is definitely suit-based. Will check out Hobbs - how do they size compared to say Marks and Spencers? (Yes that's how old my suits were!)

I fit into a 12 top and 10 bottom in both M&S and Hobbs, so I think they are similar in size.

Sorry, just see this. Hobbs is quite generous IMO. So probably similar to M&S. I do always need a bigger size jacket than trousers though I don't think they are generous in the boob department!
