Itchy wool mix trousers

Hello. I have a pair of wool mix maternity trousers, of which I love the cut and I went to all the trouble of taking up. The problem is that even after a wash with lots of fabric softener they are SO ITCHY!

They're half lined with acetate, but even the lined part is itchy. I could add in extra lining, but clearly the acetate is useless. Anyone got any bright ideas for which fabric would stop the "itch" coming through, but without making the trouser legs bulky.

It's now almost 4.30 and I can't wait to get home and get the bloody things off!

Thanks for any ideas.

wear with very thin tights? Sympathies, I hate itchy clothes...

this also drives me mad

I've never found anything that stopped the itchiness so I just don't buy wool mix anymore! (sorry if that's not the answer you wanted!)

Good idea, but they itch through my pop socks so I think I need something more robust. Tsk.

It's so annoying and there are so many lovely jumpers I have to turn down at the shops because they're itchy. (Even things like angora which is supposedly soft!)

I think you might be onto something. I only bought becuase I was desperate for grey maternity trousers. Serves me right!

don't be fooled into buying the jumpers

I did, thinking I could wear a long sleeved cotton T-shirt type thing underneath - it itched all round my neck and drove me mad.

I really don't know what the solution is! Perhaps you'll have to try long johns but it would be mighty warm!

can you get them lined by a sewing person (cant think of the name!)

QuootieSpookypie · 30/10/2006 16:34

taylor, tailor...?

twelveyeargap · 30/10/2006 16:36

Tailor. I can do it myself, I'm reasonably handy with a sewing machine - just don't know what fabric to use.

I sometimes find that ironing (usually the preserve of the dangerously insane, I know) can help smooth th fibres and make itchy things a bit better.
And spray starch worked wonders for an itchy linen skirt of mine, though not sure I'd try it on wool...
