non-wired bra that does not give me a mono-boob

I'm pregnant with DC3, growing rapidly and I know non-wired will give me a bit more flexibility on size (I can go up in back and cup, it will be wearable now, i'll grow into it and then it'll be ok for a while after I would have grown out of a wired one). But they call give terrible mono - boob. Ideally I'd like them to be reasonably priced, say under £20. I've got an emma jane nursing one from last time which flattens everything horribly, and a shock-absorber sports one which does the same just to a lesser extent. And then a variety of soft crop tops which are terrible.

i'm currently a 30F and 16 weeks pregnant. non pregnant I am a 30E. I expect I'll go out to a 32G by the time my ribs get stretched and my boobs grow another couple of cup sizes. I'm after good old "lift and separation".

You will struggle to get good separation without wires tbh, but the best I know of is the Freya deco which has a Wire free version

bonzo77 · 24/03/2015 16:41

Thanks. I suspected so. I saw the deco one on the bravissimo website. Do you think it gives the flexibility of fit I'd get from a soft cup?

I think it's fairly flexible, yes. It is a difficult balance - personally I didn't surrender my wires until I gave up work at 38 weeks Grin

what about those cross your heart" Playtex ones-I remember there advert about "lift and separate" from years ago-not the sexiest looking things though!!

everythingsgoingsouth · 24/03/2015 17:51

ooh, excuse typos- their,not there!

bonzo77 · 24/03/2015 20:50

thanks. everything the playtex ones (and the Triumph Doreen) only start at a 34 back, far too big for me, but if they came in my size I'd definitely be trying them.

statistically i'm so grateful for you advice, you told me to try half cup bras which really solved so many problems for me, then I got pregnant!! I'd love to stay in the wired bras (I did in my last 2 pregnancies), but the wires drive me mental as soon as my bra size changes even slightly: if the fit is not perfect then they dig in somewhere, hence me wanting non wired for now. I just had a look again at that deco style. It's very plungey, and I think I'd fall out of it actually. I'm going to see if there is anything I can tolerate in m&s, either wired or not. I'm just so sodding uncomfortable, and if I am comfortable I look like a saggy sofa in a crop top. Which is crappy as my boobs are one of my better features, especially as I am in the "is-she-fat-or-pregnant?" stage of being pregnant. Grr.

Ah, the "I've not eaten all the Greggs pasties, honestly" stage. The one where you suddenly understand why people buy t-shirts with "just cooking" and similar slogans on!

Buying wires when pregnant is a little different -generally buy it so the band fits on the tightest hook rather than the loosest so you have somewhere to go with tightening up. Half cups will give you a little more flexibility in terms of absorbing small amounts of expansion too as they're very open (not suggesting wearing them to quad boob level, but they can cope with filling out a little). I also found I grew in fits and starts which helped a bit with bras.

Which bras do you normally wear? Maybe i can suggest some cheap sources for them instead :)

I love the bravisimo rococo charm and their Alana style. Their hearts amour style didn't work for me (too padded) and Freya just doesn't suit. Wires always poked me between the boobs till you sorted me out! Neither are reduced at the moment. Amazon are doing a Royce non wired t shirt bra which I am tempted by, only £15 with free delivery.

I have a playtex and it gives awful monoboob.

I have a couple of these as my period bra. The fit is more like old fashioned sizing, I'm usually a 32G and the 34 bad can be rather tight on, when I'm feeling bloaty and tender. I wear a gloriously ill fitting 36E as my period bra, but there's definitely no monoboob.

Watch ebay for Alana, there are a few people selling new ones

30ff if you don't mind lime

Royce aren't too bad - just watch the sizing as the skip double letters in many of their bras.

I wear primark non-wire comfort bras as since babies i can't wear a wire and they don't give me a sausage.
