Open pores?

I'm 41 and always had good skin. I've noticed over the last few weeks that the pores on my cheeks are larger and more noticeable. Even when I wear primer and foundation (Dior Star).

What can I do? What's caused it?

I oil cleanse then use a cream cleaner. I then use Protect and Perfect intense serum and moisturiser. I exfoliate a couple of times a week.

Also can anyone fill me on Retinol A? Should I be using this???

I get that too. Lavera mint pore refiner has sorted out for me. About a tenner.

How often do you use the serum? I use a facial oil or serumand I usually need a couple of days a week 'off' using it. Other than that, I have skin perfector from Clarins that fills in and smoothes my skin out.

Use the serum twice a day. Used it for years. My skin looks crap without it. Do you think it could be causing my pore issue?

I'm not sure, but I have in my head that your skin chucks out what it doesn't need, so if you overwhelm it the pores open to expel what's not needed. Was probably told by some Clarins/Clinique woman at some point! I have simply noticed that if the texture of my skin changes, I give it a break from the oil and night cream for a couple of days and it looks better. I'm even quite naughty and don't cleanse my skin before bedtime Blush Works though!

Occlusives that sit on the skin such as parrifin derivatives and silicones like dimethicone can make the skin look blurred but do block pores. I don't know if using long term could cause this. Maybe don't use at night and check ingrediants?
Also very thick and rich oils can do similar.
