Am I going mad, or are elasticated waist trousers in fashion this season?

I'm looking for some smart work trousers, and many of the pairs I've considered, from Next and M&S, have either a full or part elasticated waist. I've either been under a rock and have missed this fashion change, or I've inadvertently selected 'old lady' trousers.

Can I honestly wear work trousers with a part elasticated waist, will I look ridiculous, or is this just fashion?????

I ordered some to try and they felt totally wrong for work. Like I was pregnant or just couldn't be bothered and wanted comfort over style. However they do seem fashionable and for weekends perhaps I'd consider them.

The pair I nearly bought, had a normal waistband apart from a small section of elasticated-ness at each hip (if that makes sense). Is this totally fashion fail? Apart from that, they were lovely trousers. Nearly all my tops are long-ish so you'd never see the waistband, but somehow it feels wrong!

I think if you can't see if then who cares! I'm sure they look great on many people, I just didn't feel professional and I need to for work to give me confidence!

Ah, thank you Fiorentina - I think I wanted someone to reassure me that a little invisible elastic was acceptable! The trousers in question are quite tailored, and I didn't realise there were elastic bits til I looked closely. They're very flattering, so I think I'll buy them. Thank you again!

This is excellent news if it's true Grin

I find that if I wear elasticated waistbands or loose jersey fabrics or maxi dresses I tend to overeat & pile on weight. Then when I try to get back into ordinary waistbands, the zip won't zip up....

I work in a formal environment, and wanted a pair of smart, slim leg trousers. These looked perfect on the hanger, looked really good when I tried them on, but I was mortified that the sides of the waistband were elasticated. However after reassurance from a poster on this thread, and six secretaries at work, I decided that if you can't see the elastic bits then it doesn't matter. So I bought them. I'm size 12.
