Suggestions please to help my puffy face.

Have just looked at some photos taken this weekend at a rare night out and my face looks puffy, as if I have just got out of bed. I am 38 years old and have 2 DCs under 4 years so sleep deprivation is an issue but could that cause it? Any suggestions for causes or cures would be much appreciated, thanks.

a homemade remedy - lightly whip an egg white, cleanse your face and brush on the egg white. Lie down while the egg white is drying and rinse with warm water and pat dry. You could also use cold cucumber slices over your eyes at the same time.

Really? I would never have known that. And I get to lie down, which is a bonus Smile Thanks, I will give it a bash.

Dehydration can cause a puffy face.

abigboydidit · 23/03/2015 11:09

Oh, dehydration may be the culprit then. I will get a glass of water.. Caffeine bad too?

wine is the worst (sorry Sad) - could that be a culprit? I tend to have a glass or so most nights with a couple of nights off a week, but stopped altogether for about 10 days. I don't think my face is puffy usually but I really noticed the difference (tummy too).

Hmm. I had wine the night before, which is unusual for me. Typical Hmm

I agree wine can cause puffiness as can an allergy, maybe to something you aren't aware of? Too much wheat as pp says? Or dairy products? Drinking lots of water will help alleviate it/flush it out.

glugglugglug · 23/03/2015 15:54

Yep, wine unfortunately. I have a glass or 2 most nights, but when I'm not drinking, I notice quite a big difference. Also, another big culprit, salt. If I have a night with a lot of salt, ie an indian takeaway and wine....well, puffy doesn't quite say it.

Oh, also, you could try facial massage. I do this 5 nights out of 7 (can't be bothered at the weekends tbh) and my skin looks slightly less puffy and I also have a bit more of a glow in the mornings.

sleepwhenidie · 23/03/2015 16:14

On the bright side, gin doesn't seem to cause as much of a problem Smile!

castlesintheair · 23/03/2015 16:16

Also msg if added to takeaways is a major puffer.

abigboydidit · 23/03/2015 16:50

Have to confess I use a lot of salt. Been needing an incentive to cut it down so this may be it! Can you tell me more about the facial massage? What do you do?

abigboy, ahhh, well that makes sense then. With the facial massage, I cleanse with superdrug naturally radiant (as good as liz earle some say) and then I cleanse again, but instead of using cotton wool, or a muslin cloth, I use my fingers and massage it for a few minutes. I use a circular motion going from my chin, upto my forehead and also sweeping movements, again upwards with the tips of my fingers. It's quite hard to describe, but check out Lisa Eldridge I don't do everything she suggests though. I do it for a maximum of 3 minutes I'd say. I would do it for longer, but I just find it so boring! It does make a difference though.

abigboydidit · 23/03/2015 19:50

Thanks - I will hit superdrug tomorrow and then give that a go!
