Where do you buy your workwear?

I'm really struggling with my work wardrobe.

I've never been big on fashion, to be honest I'm completely clueless.

What shop do I need to go to to find reasonably priced stuff? What style is in now? Or rather, what can I buy that is foolproof and wearable over a few seasons (years really).

I'm sales so see a lot of customers and need to look presentable.

Most of the people I work with and go visit are men and I just keep hoping they're all colourblind and as clueless when it comes to fashion as me!!!

I'm a size 14 and 5'10" by the way if that influences the recommendation of shop.

I really like M&S for decent quality and not expensive basics like plain skirts or cardigans. Funnily enough I went workwear shopping today and after looking in New Look and Next I got stuff in M&S, the prices were the same but the materials were a lot less shiny and plasticy.

I liven up my basic stuff by buying pretty blouses in H&M or Tk Maxx. I hate ironing so just buy floaty ones rather than cotton shirts.

Day to day, my staple wardrobe is dark trousers or just above the knee skirt and dark cardigan and then a pretty coloured top/blouse. Very occassionally wear dark dresses with a cardigan.

Thank you, I think my style is similar to what you're describing yours as. Only I but my trousers and skirts from New Look so they probably look cheap.

I will venture in to M&S next week, I've actually never been clothes shopping in there before!

COS for trousers, tops, shirts and coats
Whistles for silk tops......sale only and very occasionally
Marks and spencer for ankle boots and cashmere jumpers
And other stories: for bags, jumpers, and accessories
But then I only wear slim cropped or long trousers, Anke boots plus a jumpers or a silk t shirt. Black navy white and grey. It's a uniform and saves me from bothering to think in the morning. It might not be sharp enough for others!

I always think hope that nice shoes and bag is half the battle, so you decide on your main neutral colour(s) then buy a decent bag and shoes in each. I'm a big fan of tk maxx for decent bags for cheap.

Then it all depends on the fit and what suits you. M&S is good for general workwear, but their trousers simply don't fit me (tight around the waist and baggy elsewhere), so I can't shop there. Next is a bit better, so high street-wise that's probably my first port of call. It can be quite individual (unless you're one of these sickening people who fits clothes perfectly in every shop ;-) )

In terms of what's "in" - I don't worry too much about that, I'd rather go for stuff that suits me. I suit wide leg or (shock) bootleg trousers as slim/tapered trousers make my legs look like parsnips, so have been wearing these throughout the trend for cigarette pants/slim leg trousers etc. If you can figure out your body shape and what would look best (or post on here for advice if you're not sure) that might be the best starting point. Also choose the best colours for you and try to avoid the uniform of black/grey/navy if it doesn't suit you (I made that mistake for years...).
