Cos and whistles.

I've struggled with buying clothes after dcs have been born (5 dcs in 6 years so no 'break' in between maternity clothes, really) last dc is now 3 and I'm 'accepting' my shape and trying to by clothes around it (apple with a big bum Sad)

I'm struggling with jeans. Want boyfriend jeans and can't find any to suit.

I'll try some of the above shop recommendations. I used to love Reiss, but it always felt like it was for only really skinny people. I also have not idea what size I am either!

If you're all about quality have a look a jaeger outlet. They have some beautiful things at amazing prices ( I keep thinking they're bound to go under)

Alpinecrunch · 22/03/2015 11:50

Cos, & other stories, whistles, All Saints, zara.

Alpinecrunch · 22/03/2015 11:50

Plumo too

MummyBtothree · 22/03/2015 12:24

Same places when in your thirties. Or ambrose wilson or sunday paper supplements if you wanna go all pop socks and nylon slacks

Financeprincess · 22/03/2015 13:12

I agree that you need better fabrics and cuts when you get past your mid thirties. Not necessarily for concealment, but because you need to go a bit more chic/tailored to look good.

I wish that I could still get away with £9.99 mini skirts paired with a little vest top, but I can't!

I find J Crew pretty good: nice shapes and detail, good fabric. They are ££ though.

Karen Millen have good stuff too, particularly coats and skirts. Cos do some nice heavy fabrics and good shapes, although some are too big and boxy. Jaeger can be very good if you hunt out their stylish stuff. Also, don't discount good old M&S...I've had some excellent stuff from there, particularly trousers and dresses.

I turned 40, 5 months ago! I buy my clothes from White Stuff, Joules, Phase Eight, Boden, and Fat Face. I have to look smart but practical one day a week and the rest of the time can wear as I please. I am a size 12, sometimes 14 depending on the cut. I used to like Monsoon but have gone off them a bit recently and I love Joules new Spring collection.

welloverdue · 22/03/2015 14:19

Reading this has made me think perhaps I should start spending more money on clothes. I have never shopped in whistles or cos or mint velvet or reiss or jaeger because of the cost. I do agree that as you get older you can't get away with a cheap outfit so easily.

omnishambles · 22/03/2015 14:23

I am wearing a lot of the ines de a fressange range from uniqlo recently but otherwise its top shop, hush etc as usual.

pinkfrocks · 22/03/2015 15:21

I'm decades older than you and would thin the world is your oyster at 40! You can shop anywhere except shops that sell completely frumpy stuff!

I agree with GeorginaW and that's where I shop, except I don't like River Island, Cos and find Reiss very overpriced- and Hobbs is a bit too staid/ office wear for my lifestyle.

SuperFlyHigh · 22/03/2015 17:09

I tend to shop at Zara, oasis, warehouse (latter 2 in work town) and sometimes miss selfridge in sales. Odd bit from Massimo Dutti and sometimes cos and &otherstories. H&M too but not keen. Also Joy the store (last 2 skirts have been from louche from there). Uniqlo for heattech.

SuperFlyHigh · 22/03/2015 17:11

I've gone right off whistles since I bought a jumper that creases every time I wear it! I have got their tube skirt, a pyramid bracelet and chain earrings from there though!

PiratePanda · 22/03/2015 18:37

Sigh. It's the quality issue for me. I can no longer bear to buy crappy fabrics that will last only a wear or two before they look shabby; I want quality basics that will last, but that still have a bit of flair.

John Smedley Outlet is absolutely awesome for merino and cashmere, as he long as you don't mind absolute classics.

L K Bennett for dresses and shoes (in the sales).

Gabor flat shoes and low heels - ridiculously comfortable and discrete if not always ultra fashionable.

Noa Noa for jackets - actually I buy a lot of clothes from there.

Jaeger.

East for outstanding quality plain t-shirts and the odd statement jacket.

Trousers....sigh. No idea. I have actually been buying M&S skinny work trousers. They're OK.

Gap in autumn for well-priced merino.

I wish we had a Cos :( Would shop in Zara too if I weren't a 14-16; can't fit into anything in there.
