Oh TK Maxx how I love you!

I am wearing:
leather converse hi tops - RRP £50+ ...I paid £15
Tommy Hilfiger jeans - RRP £75ish ...I paid £20
Ralph Lauren polo shirt - RRP £85 ...I paid £30
Osprey Handbag RRP £200ish ...I paid £50

None of these items are in any way 'quirky' or dated, they are all timeless classic items - why were they there?

How anyone can bear to pay the real price is beyond me...bide your time and before you know it your hearts desire will be in the TK Maxx clearance section. Grin

At size 12 with a size 5 foot there's never anything in the clearance section to fit me.

TheTravellingLemon · 21/03/2015 11:33

I love it in there too. The kids stuff is great and I remember getting gro bags for my DS there really cheap. They are so expensive normally.

nickEcave · 21/03/2015 11:43

I'm also a huge fan although it's a total jumble sale in there and you need at least an hour to do a proper browse and try on about 20 things of which only one will be right. Definitely a shop for days when you've got plenty of time and no kids with you! Got a beautiful tomatoe red French Connection dress in there last summer for £20 - similar ones in FC were well over £100

MrsCurly · 21/03/2015 11:45

I'm sure you look lovely and the items are great but the truth about TK Maxx is that most if the RRPs are invented. You should really base your view of whether it's value for money on the price you've actually paid, not the RRP.

Tommy Hilfinger and Ralph Lauren most likely make lines specifically for TK Maxx. You may not find those items in their own stores. They were most likely never sold anywhere at the RRP.

I think Osprey is a TK Maxx own label, so again, not sold outside of TK Maxx. They have discounted against the price they themselves have set, giving the illusion of a great discount, but again, I'd wager the bag has never been sold at the higher price.

AlpacaMyBag · 21/03/2015 11:49

I don't disagree with you MrsCurly, but Osprey isn't a TK Maxx brand. It's an independent brand.

FauxFox · 21/03/2015 12:00

I am size 10 with size 5 feet and I find loads. I don't deny there is some funny business going on but the rrps I listed here are from web searches not the labels (except the polo) because the other items are older and I've forgotten what they said it should have cost...whatever the reason you can't deny that £20 designer jeans from TK Maxx are better denim and last longer than £20 jeans from h&m - I have done the research!

Osprey is not a tk Maxx brand - I have been in one of their shops - 'twas full of lovely stuff but I will not pay those prices - too tight Smile

Love TKMaax, it's the not knowing what you'll find that I enjoy.

FauxFox · 21/03/2015 12:05

Me too Bernedette - and the thought others are less likely to have the same as you too Smile

I love it too - and it's easy after a whole to spot the garments that were destined to go straight to clearance and which are last season / slight seconds (usually sizing out rather than quality) / not selling well (quirky and / or odd sizes) and are therefore often bargains compared to the high street price

You do need patience, and it's hard to get something very specific: "top for going out" is easy; "black top with long sleeves for going out" trickier

Lardylassnomore · 21/03/2015 13:10

It can be a treasure trove!

BigRedBall · 21/03/2015 13:19

I love it too. Ralph Lauren dress for my daughter bought for £6 last summer. I love it in there, it really is like a treasure trove. You never know what you'll find.

pointyshoes · 21/03/2015 16:04

Osprey is an independent brand. John Lewis sell their bags, and they aren't cheap!

MrsCurly · 21/03/2015 17:11

Ok I take it back about Ospreys. But the hip brand you've never heard of is quite often one if their own labels. They have more than a hundred secret own label brands.

BabyGanoush · 21/03/2015 17:15

I once bought an Osprey classic "leather bag" at TK Maxx which turned out, upon closer inspection, to be fake leather.

Some of their RRP's are just wild inventions.

Then again, I love a bargain there! A lot of it si seconds though, but it doesn't always say.

I buy all my sunglasses at TK Maxx

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/03/2015 17:19

Love it. Get all my hair products in TK Maxx and have got some fab things for DD. Just got her a lovely Stella McCartney top.

newgirl · 21/03/2015 17:22

Love it too - got new berkos there recently in good colour that sell in jones for x2. Def some dodgy stuff but worth a look.

HarrietSchulenberg · 21/03/2015 17:26

I don't dislike TK Maxx but I get better quality, choice and value at charity shops. That's not meant in a derogatory way, it's just a fact.

Behooven · 21/03/2015 17:29

I quite like the online shop (although paying for delivery and returns is annoying) because I can't be bothered raking through the racks in the shop.

HeyDuggee · 21/03/2015 17:35

I've bought lots of beauty products there that sound like obscure made up brands, yet they sell for 5x as much in selfridges. And are a hip, obscure brand.

Rivercam · 21/03/2015 17:37

The rrp may be slightly inflated, but the actual prices are still lower than the original selling prices. I go through phases of loving TK Maxx , and not having the patient for it. Time is definitely needed.

Ffuchsia · 21/03/2015 17:56

Wish they did more for fat people!

hillyhilly · 21/03/2015 18:11

I love love love it, went in a got a load the other day, some days I can come out empty handed ( though not many!) but generally get some lovely stuff.
I think it helps that I really know what styles and colours suit me so I dint make many mistakes. It does however, make me try different things as the cost is low.

maybemyrtle · 21/03/2015 19:48

I do find it odd how sniffy some people are about TK Maxx. I've found some absolute steals in there, particularly things that I wanted but couldn't justify when I saw them in the actual shop (eg French Connection, Other Stories, Dune). Yes there are some own labels/diffusion labels but there are also many genuine bargains. The trick is to recognise which is which.

trixymalixy · 21/03/2015 20:00

I love tkmaxx. I buy all my ski wear there. Mountain Force salopettes for £90, same ones in the pricey sports shop near my work for £300. Ski helmets for the kids £2 each. Legowear salopettes for £3 in the yellow ticket sales.

I've also bought le creuset kids baking sets for less than £10 rrp £35.

It's easy enough to google while you're in the store if you don't know the brand.
