Swimsuits for the tall, busty (and doughy...)

Horrified as I am at the mere thought of thigh exposure, I really want to take my dds to the pool and I also live very close to the beach and yet never go in the sea unless in a wetsuit. I don't have a swimsuit that fits me. I do have a bikini, but that is only to go under the wetsuit .
I find that swimming costume manufacturers allow you to have one difference from the average, like large breasts, or a big tummy, etc, but only one. I am tall, so I need a longish suit, but i am also busty (28GG/H) and at the moment due to a thyroid issue I have packed on the podge and am horribly doughy everywhere. Particularly my thighs . I like a retro looking suit, not at all high cut, and prefer straps to a halter neck as i also have a dodgy neck, but if it is a tie halter I can adapt it. Is there any hope of something even vaguely flattering? I look horrible in black or bright blue as i am as white as a bottle of milk (sound gorgeous don't I eh?).

oh, I also sometimes wear Landsend shorts with a BRavissiMo tankini top

I think that might be the way to go, until someone realises that taller women want swimsuits too, and need them in a range of cup sizes. When I was a very slender (22/23" waist) younger woman, I wore my Mum's old swimsuit from the mid 50s. It has no stretch at all, as it is woven cotton, and my Mum is average height, but it was the only suit that fitted me. Other than that I wore bikinis. I do have Mum's suit still, but it is too tight, and also not good for either pool or sea swimming as I don't want the fabric to degrade.

I don't know if they're any good on the bust, (and it's often criticised on these boards) but is Long Tall Sally worth a look?

Hadn't thought of them. I like this one. Might buy that and see how it is on the bust, even though it is a tankini it looks nice and long. Not black either!

THIS m.figleaves.com/uk/product/PA-SW0760/Isobel-Underwired-Panelled-Swimsuit/?productColourId=723518

Actually figleaves have a great range for small back big bust

I have G cup boobs, and Lands End hold them in/up just fine. The ones with 'slender' in the name suck in saggy tummies too. And they do 'long' as well as 'regular'.

They have gone up a lot in price over the last couple of years, so you might want to watch out for sales/offers.

bluewisteria- small back big bust isn't a problem, I could easily find a suit for that, its that combined with being tall that is the problem, especially with the smallest back sizes, as the suits then tend almost towards petite, whereas I need long.

Gd to have another vote for landsend, but do you get the DD/DDD cup ones Edith? Or the regular? Because the bigger cup ones don't come in long. Long only comes in the smaller , regular cup size. If the regular cup fits a G then that would be worth me trying even though they are expensive suits.

I have one that looks a lot like this one from the current catalogue (but I'm not 100% sure it's exactly the same).

It didn't specify cup size, and I wear the 16 long (previously 18 long).

I've never tried returning swimwear, but Lands End have excellent customer service and returns policy. Might be worth giving them a call to check they do take it back (IIRC they have sticky-back plastic in the gusset, so I can't see why not) and then trying it on.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/03/2015 23:04

I really like that in the green colour, I would buy that right now, but they don't have it in long. I will check the US site, but then the problem is returns, as the duty is so high, that although I do buy from their US site (As you say, the customer service is amazingly good) I usually only buy things for my dds that I know will fit, because it is never worth returning them after paying twenty quid or so in duty, plus the shipping from/to the US.
I am baffled as to why it is a problem. When I first started wearing a bra, it wasn't possible to get a size to fit me, they just weren't made. I had to literally take them apart and sew them back together smaller. I used to call M+S head office and badger them to make smaller backed bras and was told that there was no demand for them. I remember saying "well I'm demanding them, and I don't think I look particularly freakish".
So there is so much more of a size range available now in underwear and swimwear, but still no swimsuits for busty women over average height. It is bonkers really. I wonder if anyone makes them to order or anything? Next time I am in Sweden I am going to try and try on a gazzillion suits for a start..

The only suits in long on the UK site all look like my school swimming costime, plain tank shaped top, navy or black, highly unflattering.
