the search for a great facial sunscreen...

hello, looking for a good facial sunscreen for holidays. Ideally it would a) not sting eyes b) feel light and be easily absorbed c) have SPF of 45/50 d) be paraben etc free and e) have some nice, natural moisturising ingredients in it.

I've been trying to find one for years and have never found one I'd buy again. We use Jason 45 SPF sunscreen for body but it stings eyes and the facial one they do is only 25SPF. DH is very fair skinned so it needs to be higher.

Been thinking about getting Skinceuticals Sheer Mineral UV Defense 50 or Ultra Facial Defense 50, so if you have experience of those, it'd be really welcome, as well as new/other suggestions.

Many thanks in advance.

Your holidays sound much like ours, Moustache Grin lots of museums, cafés and other places to hide from the sun. Ironically, I have been to the desert a few times, but we timed our walks to avoid the worst of the sun and stayed covered up. This was in the US but I still got people staring at me and asking me why I was so pale Confused

I'll be honest, my favourite holiday destination is North Wales- you never have to worry about too much sun there Grin

Bolshy, yup. I've never been on a beach holiday either (largely because it would bore me to death, I'm quite dark and tan fairly easily, but try not to soak up too much as it's drying/not good long term). We go somewhere there is plenty to do and pick our times, plus make sure there is somewhere close by where I can sit out for 30 minutes to an hour mid-morning or early evening so I get my vitamin D quota. We both love warm/dry weather though, so North Wales is out. Live in Scotland normally so no chance of overdosing on sun day to day!

RonaldMcDonald. Thank you, another vote for Mac. Does it help your nose stay on too Grin?

Glad to be of help :)

Hi OP - not sure if you've found one already, but if not I'd recommend Green People. Free from nasty additives etc, no fragrance at all, and feels light on the skin. I used it recently on body and face on sunny holiday, as did DH and on his bald spot too . I think they do a sample size if you want to test it for eye sensitivity. Your tips on Madrid sound great for us fellow pale souls!

MoustacheofRonSwanson · 22/03/2015 22:31

Thank you Fizzyfeet. I do like Green People for other things and I try to stick to that area of the cosmetics market (Lavera, Faith in Nature, Dr Haushka, JASON etc) so I will check them out. I'm going to get small/cheap tubes of 4 or 5 and do a field test I think.

1stMrsF Gave a few things a trial in the Easter sunshine and the Dermalogica won hands down. Thanks

I've tried most on the market (have had skin cancer) for a facial SPF this is excellent, a dermatologist recommended it:

Where I bought from you could purchase samples Grin

I wish all sunscreen companies would offer this, it's often hard to find one that suits your skin!

Sun sense daily face is also excellent.

I know this is an old thread now but those mentioning the Mac SPF 50 prep and prime- can you find it anymore? Or has it been discontinued?

SuperFlyHigh · 24/07/2015 12:07

soap and glory do an spf50 which I use which is fine for me.

Melonfool · 24/07/2015 12:17

I use the LRP one and haven't found it gives me spots.

I love the idea of the Dermalogica one you just add to whatever you want though. I'd have to save up with it being nearly £40.
