Breastfeeding friendly dress for May wedding guest. Please help!

Hello lovely style gurus. Please help me find a breastfeeding friendly dress to wear to my friend's relaxed smart-casual wedding in mid May!

I am a fairly pear-shaped size 10-12 on top and 12-14 on the bottom. My DD is three months old and although I have lost most of the pregnancy weight I have the classic mum tum and am generally quite wobbly un-toned.

Am a fan of cobalt blue, teal, mint green type colours as opposed to reds/oranges/yellows.

TIA for any help!

Have you tried JojoMamaBebe? They usually have a great choice.

Greensiren2014 · 18/03/2015 19:44

I got a lovely one from seraphine last year for a June weddinng x

MamehaSan · 18/03/2015 19:47

Ah hem, please ignore me while I lurk, I was just about to post an almost identical question...

I'm tall, size 10 all over and like the same colours as OP if anyone has any suggestions

amy83firsttimer · 18/03/2015 19:50

Snap - I started a thread about this a few weeks back.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 18/03/2015 19:52

I had a lovely sort of teal and navy one from seraphine.

MamehaSan · 18/03/2015 23:07

I've done some browsing and have turned up these, Penguin, I don't know if any are suitable for you?

blue jojo dress

teal seraphine dress

same seraphine one in berry

mink tiffany rose dress

The thing I'm struggling with is that most dresses with boob access are dual purpose maternity and nursing clothes. They're cut to accommodate a nine month bump, and I fear people might take one look and think I'm pregnant again Blush

Penguin13 · 18/03/2015 23:12

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did have a look at Seraphine but whilst I like the dresses most of the nursing dresses seem not quite weddingy enough, even for a smart casual affair I think.

I noticed that a lot of shops have nursing dresses that are designed as maternity dresses? Doesn't this just make them a bit baggy and shapeless if designed to accommodate a bump?

I can only speak for Jojomamabebe, and you'd think it would be baggy but somehow it isn't.

Cross post MamehaSan! Will check out the links.

Thanks for the links MamehaSan none of them are exactly what I'm looking for although I love the colour of the teal Seraphine dress. I think it's the jersey type fabrics that makes me wonder if the dresses are weddingy enough but maybe I'll have to suck it up and accept that access requires stretchiness of fabric!

I'm going to try looking outside maternity clothing I think. Definitely hear you on the not wanting to look pregnant front!

Ooh thanks Ellis love the first one colour and style - looks like it should be really flattering.

Think the All Saints one is nice but have a feeling it would show up my every lump and bump.

Really like the shape of the Ralph Lauren but not sure it's my colour.

I have a similar wedding in July and have ordered this:
pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=151602477376

flippityflip · 19/03/2015 07:55

It's not necessarily particularly weddingy but it is a bit more formal and floaty as everything else I looked at seemed to be jersey. I got a pair of Kurt Geiger gold/bronze coloured shoes to go with it and will wear something dressy in my hair and take a smart bag (obv I'll also have a big nappy bag stashed in the car!)

FreiasBathtub · 19/03/2015 08:20

What about a dress with a zip front? Seem to be a lot of them about at the moment and should give you relatively easy access. I'm on the app so can't link but if you google 'zip front dress' the third or fourth result is ShopStyle which has loads of options - some more weddingy than others!

Penguin13 · 19/03/2015 08:52

Thanks Flippity love that dress. Shame it's now out of stock as it looks perfect and just my style!

Good idea Freias will have a gander later when I have a bit more time. My parents are arriving imminently and the house looks like it has been hit by a dust/toy tornado! Grin

I too have really struggled to find nursing clothes that aren't saggy, shapeless and (for me as a short person) unflatteringly long! Bought a dress for a wedding recently from this place www.milkandmummy.com/ and have got another one on order as I was very happy with it. Good luck with your search!

HelenThatsHisWilly · 19/03/2015 09:59

Hi penguin, I have the "zoe" dress linked to above, in teal. I was a similar size to you when I wore it 4 weeks post partum (to get married in!) so it should suit you too.

Penguin13 · 19/03/2015 10:28

Ooh love that site Moment. Loads of lovely dresses. Thanks for the tip.

Aw congratulations on your wedding Helen. Great to have feedback from someone who has actually worn it. I love teal so this could be a winner!

MomentOfWonder · 19/03/2015 12:55

No worries! One of the dresses I ordered didn't suit me and the refund process was nice and quick/straightforward too. I am not taking commission...

Penguin13 · 19/03/2015 15:01

Have ordered a Zoe but loving the suggestions everyone. I love dresses! Smile

I'm nursing at the moment and haven't worn nursing clothes since about three weeks post birth. I hate then, they feel frumpy and have lots of bits of fabric that get moved this way and that, it's annoying an unnecessary. I have simply worn a vest under my normal top, the vest gets pulled down, top pulled up, easy, and extremely discreet if that matters to you

What about separates? A top and skirt is much easier to find and if you went for a more pencil style skirt you could balance it out with a top that's a bit bigger so you had easy access.

LovelyBranches · 19/03/2015 23:11

Matalan do bubble hem tops that with the right accessories and skirt could work. I wear them to work but they could be dressed up. www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2573716/bubble-hem-blouse

I have a few of these tops and they are great. I could wear the same size pre pregnancy, up to about 8 months pregnant and also when nursing.
