buying clothes from a seller on instagram

There's a "recreate this celeb look" type account on instagram which i've been following. They apparently source the cheaper versions of the clothes celebrities wear and then send them to you. There's some clothes I want from it, but all they've done is send me their bank details and say that they'll send the clothes to me.

I don't want to be sending £200 off to someone randomly and hoping I'll get the clothes. There is no name attached to the bank account details, just a sort code and acc number. They don't have a website and there is only a gmail address I am communicating with. Plus the instagram account has only been up and running for 5 weeks. Is this what people do on instagram? What do I have to put in place before I send the money?

I have a baby boutique on Instagram and I buy a lot of baby clothes from other shops on there. I felt the same way as you did and tbh I only started buying once I had seen other people had brought from there and they had good reviews. I would never buy from an Instagram or Facebook selling page unless I used PayPal, just feels safer.

If it doesn't feel right then don't do it.

Also. There really are loads of those types of shop on Instagram so if you don't really trust that one have a look for another one.

Thanks for your reply.

So if I send the money but the clothes don't materialise, do I have a leg to stand on? Does Paypal protect that?

don't send anything via bank transfer only via paypal to their paypal.

Never send to a bank account your not covered as you've willing sent the funds. Always pay via PayPal always always Grin

FannyPancake · 17/03/2015 20:12

Yes PayPal is much safer than just bank transfer. Have a look on their website just to double check it does what you want.

Test it with an inexpensive garment first like a t shirt before sending off £200. I personally wouldn't do it if I felt doubtful about the nature of a selling site.
