Unusual ring for 40th birthday

Well for MY 40th. Any help would be fabulous!

Wanting a beautiful ring for my upcoming birthday from DP. Have never really had any 'proper' jewellery and think this is a good time to get something!

I like the idea of an eternity ring, but my goodness, the price! All the ones I like are thousands of pounds.

Looking for something fairly inexpensive, a bit unusual, and not dainty - I have chubby fingers! Silver or white gold. Diamonds?

Any one seem anything nice? Am I asking too much??

I like Diana Porter dianaporter.co.uk I got one of her etched bands for my 40th.

Persilwhite · 16/03/2015 23:18

I like Diana Porter too. I also like these www.justind.co.uk/rings.

I have man hands as my friends kindly tell me, and wear three TLK stacking rings on my right ring finger. I could go to four but I ran out of money!

Stephen Einhorn does some gorgeous chunky, but simple, gemset rings. Pricey though.

Ooh now, I like the Diana Porter stuff too, just had a look. The only thing is, the ones I like the best are all in the £1000 price range. That's just too much! I think I like the blingyier rings than the bands, and for that reason not so keen on the justind rings Persil suggested.

I think I want sparkly and maybe you just can't get nice sparkly for under £500....?

You'd have to stick with silver for £500. I like

Oh my Seaoflove, those rings are so beautiful. But way way out of my price range! Love some of the gem set ones... I can dream
I suppose!

The single sapphire halo ring is actually catching my eye... So pretty.

Thanks for these ideas! I will keep searching...

Have you looked on Not On the High Street? I don't know how blingy they'd be but they always have some quite unusual jewellery. Or Etsy or Folksy, where you'd be in touch with the actual jeweller.

I've totally changed my mindset on expensive jewellery following my marriage break up a few years ago. When trying to resell the platinum and diamond engagement and wedding rings, it's been almost impossible and they haven't held anywhere near their value. Years down the line and happily with my partner of the last five, I've been facing my 40th also wanting something like you've described. Don't be put off by eBay. I've seen ( and heavily hinted at) a stunning half eternity ring. Unusual and gorgeous at a fraction of the cost of a jewellers. Who needs to know! I hope you find something lovely x

If you live in the South, James Jewellers in Winchester design and create beautiful, individual jewellery.

I've bought some great jewellary second-hand. Loads of eternity rings usually. John lewis carries a small vintage range but lots of jewellers do too.

I'd personally go for this: www.georgjensen.com/en-gb/jewellery/moonlight-grapes/moonlight-grapes-ring-sterling-silver-large_3558700

The grapes are a classic from GJ and the quality is great. There are some with different stones.

Or this: uk.hermes.com/jewelry/silver-jewellery/rings/configurable-product-113603b0.html?metal=SILVER

If you're into something a bit more modern, then the Georg Jensen Fusion rings could be an option.

They seem to be on ebay often, so you could potentially save some money that way, but I must admit I don't have experience buying those rings from there. As the finished ring (with 2, 3 or 4 parts) is quite wide, you might have to size up compared to each single ring, so it is worth trying on the ring with as many parts as you'd like to end up with before buying to ensure it will fit.

I have this one: uk.hermes.com/jewelry/silver-jewellery/rings/configurable-product-106513b.html and I absolutely adore it - the little ring in the middle moves and it's quite an unusual ring IMO. I prefer this one over most of my other jewellery. If you go for a wide ring like this, I recommend that you go up a few sizes - my usual size is a 52 or 53, and this one is a 55 because it is so wide that the fit is different.

How about having a look at old/vintage jewellery? It can be cheaper and just as good as newer rings, and you might be able to find the eternity ring you are dreaming of at a more reasonable price.
