Getting married - what should I wear on my head and what should I do with my hair?

Getting married in 3 months time. The dress is sorted - ivory and floor-length with lacy sleeves and v neck - like this

The wedding is a traditional church wedding, but I'm not 100% convinced about a veil. For a start, I don't have my dress yet as it's still being made so I don't know how to get the colour exactly right, and I'm worrying that as I already have lacy sleeves it might be a bit too much. So I was thinking about some kind of hair ornament-type thing. But if you are getting married in church do you 'need' a veil?

Also - hair? Putting it up might look neater but I'm worried about looking uncomfortable with lots of pins in my head. Also, the wedding is at 11am so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to get ready. I am hopeless with hair, and mine is long thick and curly - do I need to get someone to sort it? I am not sure what would suit the dress best.

I am working abroad at the moment so don't have loads of time for searching for things and finding hairdressers etc. (wedding is in London)

Any suggestions?! I am clueless so any help v welcome.

Gorgeous style of dress :) I think a half up/ half down style with some sort of vibtage comb hair ornament would look nice, or all up in a Gibson roll sort of thing. You don't need a veil, but I enjoyed wearing one (mine was v plain because I had lace bolero jacket). I wasn't going to have one, until I thought this was my only chance to do the bride thing so I should just go for it!

Thanks lovecats! Did you buy your veil at the same time as your dress? My dress should be ready within about a month but will need fitting then, so I'm not sure how I can see the dress and the veil together iyswim...

I did buy from the same place, because it was the only way I could get a colour match. I had no idea there were so many shades of Ivory! Why don't you speak to them and ask if they have some you could try when you go for a fitting that would be the right colour? I didn't wear mine over my face or anything, it just attached with a comb at the back of my head.

Halo & Co are a good starting point for researching bridal headwear.

Can your venue recommend a hair stylist, to avoid you having to spend time on research? (But if you're abroad, would you be able to have a trial session with them anyway?) Would you mind doing your hair yourself, or would you be happier knowing that it was taken care of?

My wedding is outside (but near) London, and I am paying £65 (I think?) for my hair do. You don't have to have loads of pins sticking in your head - or if you do, they shouldn't make you feel uncomfortable!

Can't help with the veil as I'm not having one, sorry.

Your dress is gorgeous!

We married in church
Im very casual , and couldn't face the idea of a veil and having someone do my hair
My dressmaker made me a scrunchie out of the same silk as the wedding dress , with chiffon ( from the skirt ) flowers and streamers
So I had a simple pony tail , and felt comfortable , yet dressed as a bride

We haven't really got a proper venue, just a church and then a restaurant afterwards.

I am not very good at hair - normally I just twist it up in a scruffy bun. I can also never get hairpins to actually stay in!

Blair - what do you get for your £65 (if you don't mind me asking!)? Do you tell them what you want beforehand and is there a chance to do a practise so you can see if it suits etc. or is that extra?

Updomlooks more sophisticated iMO & defo have a trial if u can fit it in & ask venue-My crap hair is super fine so I had lots of clip in extensions & put up. It looked loads better. I'd say no to veil with such a detailed dress-maybe a tiara! I bought a beautiful pearl one off eBay for about £20 & love it to bits!

Also ask advice from the dress shop about accessories & hair.

And congratulations!
