At 34 I really need to start looking after my skin !

I'd say it's fairly normal, slightly dry , can look dehydrated but main bug beat is im usually sporting at least three ugly spots on my chin!

All advice appreciated x

Hi, I clicked on this because it sounds quite similar to me and I'm 32 so similar age. Unfortunately I haven't cracked this yet! But I can tell you what I think has helped a bit.

Firstly, do you know what is causing the spots? I presume hormonal at this age (I have PCOS). The main thing that helps me cut them down is cutting out sugar, which I am very bad at, but when I do manage it, and a bit more exercise, it really helps. I also started double cleansing: I use lush ultrabland and a miscellar water (have tried a few brands, doesn't make much difference). I recently bought Clarins Blue Orchid Oil as its meant to be good for dehydrated skin and am seeing a difference. Finally, occasional acid exfoliation (again I use a Clarins one, but its lasted nearly a year) and doing it more frequently when I have an outbreak as helped. I found reading Caroline Hirons and Sali Hughes quite useful - Caroline recommends a LOT of v expensive products, and I found hydraluron, which should on paper be excellent, did nothing for me - but she does stress the basics: clean your face properly, drink water, don't put crap in your body and expect expensive skincare to offset that. All of which I should listen to more!

All of the above but ask your GP for Duac gel for the spots.mi works and I'm currently spot free for the first time in a very longtime.

I've also been using clarins stuff for dehydrated skin and it's the only thing to have worked.
I have used a lush cleanser too (angels on bare skin?) which Ithink has helped.

In my experience the spots are hormonal, I dab them with witch hazel and wait for them to clear.

I gave acne in my chin too. I've had some success with double cleansing (oil cleanse first) and using La Roche Posay Effaclar products. Good luck, I know how miserable it feels to be spotty.

If you are Simple, stop. It is the best thing by far I have ever done for my skin. I used it for years thinking my skin was the problem. It wasn't. No more spots for me now.

Cetaphil is a good, gentle non-drying cleanser and they do a moisturiser too although I haven't used it.

Differin gel works wonders on my spot prone skin.

I get hormonal spots too, and recommend the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+ for helping get rid of them faster.

felttippens · 15/03/2015 14:19

Definitely going to give the la Roche a go

I'm deffo in love with my NUDE skincare products. I think probably the best ones overall, they don't have no nasties inside, and they are not fragranced.

Am really pleased overall :)
