What do your babies wear on their feet?

DD 6mo is starting to try and stand on her own but we've got wooden floors and I find that socks and tights are so slippy. I've got some Jojo tights with grips on the feet but they are so expensive and also don't seem to make much of a difference.

Should I be going for some kind of shoe/bootie situation?

I don't think bare feet is the answer. It will be in a minute but our house is pretty cold.

Few babies feel the cold like we do so I think bare feet is fine. Freedom for her bones to grow is very important so I was told when DS was that age.

My son is now 16 months and will only just now accept anything on his feet at all (and that's only because he needs shoes for walking outside!). Up until now, even in freezing winter he preferred bare foot inside (we have tiles and wooden floors) and always took his socks off outside too. He will still always take his shoes and socks off as soon as possible.

I think bare foot is actually easier for them inside when they start to walk.

We had some of these type of booties during the cold weather, which we also used outside as it got warmer. They have a soft sole so baby can still feel the floor (important for developing balance) but the leather is a bit more grippy than socks would be.

munchkinmaster · 14/03/2015 07:06

Shoes are actually bad at this age for their soft little foot bones. Bare feet, cheap rug?

MaryWestmacott · 14/03/2015 07:07

Sainsburys also do cheap socks with grips on the bottom. Once your dc is a little older, they also do little leather bottomed slipper socks or you can get very soft leather slipper shoes, avoid proper shoes as long as possible.

Pointlessfan · 14/03/2015 07:11

DD always pulls off socks so usually goes barefoot at home. When we go out she wears socks with Sock Ons to keep them on - I bought them in Toys R Us. When it's really cold she wears tights under trousers
My aunt is a chiropodist - she said no shoes until they are walking outside so their little feet can grow.

Pico2 · 14/03/2015 07:17

My DD had to have slippers for nursery. We avoided structured shoe type slippers by getting leather ones either made by Inch Blue or Daisy Roots. But nothing or socks with grips are probably better.

Artandco · 14/03/2015 07:35

Falke socks with grips

Or soft moccasin socks Like these www.moccis.co.uk/ - they sell in h and m for about £5!

hauntedhenry · 14/03/2015 07:56

I used leather booties by inch blue. They were the only things that they didn't pull off, and they are very soft and quite roomy so don't restrict their feet. They often went barefoot too though - Babies don't seem to care about having cold feet!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 14/03/2015 08:09

DD just pulled socks off to always had bare feet (still does at 16 months). She never seemed bothered by the cold. We also tried the socks with grip on (sainsburys) and moccasin type slippers but she wouldn't keep them on for longer than 2 minutes.

TheTravellingLemon · 14/03/2015 08:11

I know they're not the cheapest, but I always found gap socks to be good. They've got little grips and they seem to be harder to pull off. I agree that shoes aren't necessary until they are walking.

TwoLittleTerrors · 14/03/2015 08:13

My 3yo prefers bare feet even in the deepest winter. They don't feel the cold the same way. As long as they are wrapped up warm.

Forendata · 14/03/2015 08:26

Oh moccasins excellent idea. Agree on being barefoot lots wtc but she needs something on feet when out.

Hm don't have that many. Anyone seen other cheap similar?

H and m usually have more in store than online.

How about these from mothercare. Not many style choices but currently £2!
www.mothercare.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-MCENGB-Site/default/Search-Show?q=Moccasin&simplesearch=search . I like the dinosaur ones

SerenaJoy · 14/03/2015 09:15

I've got the moccasin sock things from Boots before, might be worth a try?

ShadowStone · 14/03/2015 09:17

We got some moccasin socks from Mothercare. I forget how much they were though.

pantsjustpants · 14/03/2015 09:18

Ds walked at 9 months and we used soft leather slipper/booties. I found Amazon was the cheapest place to get them from and so many lovely types!

KnockMeDown · 14/03/2015 11:06

When DD was a liitle tot, I had her in these. Soft and gorgeous!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 14/03/2015 11:22
