Laser hair removal

Has anyone tried it? I have very bad hirsutism. Need to thread almost daily as some hair appear everyday. It has become quite unmanageable and very difficult to keep on top of.
I heard laser is permanent but someone told me it may not be?

I am going for my first consultation on Friday. What questions should I ask? My hair is very thick on the chin but quite fine on upper lip.

Also I have pcos and have been getting hairier and hairier. Am wondering if this will affect results?

I don't have any health issues so it is not really comparable. However, I must say laser worked fantastically for me and I am 99% hair free in the areas I had done.

It works really well. Even if it doesn't remove every hair or some come back it transforms hair management. I'm 80-100% hair free in the areas I had done and it's not returned yet in 5 years. I had some done at sk:n and then cheapy beautician one.

I've had 5 treatments on my legs and underarms. It's fantastic. I haven't touched my face yet, the therapist told me that hormonal hair will sometimes not respond, or be stimulated by laser and she recommended doing my upper lip but leaving the sides of my face.

I might give my chin a go though. If it doesn't work, I'll do electrolysis for that area.

I mainly want to do my face and then move on to rest of the body as my chin is horrendous. Will ask about stimulation as the last thing I want is more hair!

Are the home lasers any good?

zinher · 14/03/2015 17:29

I have been reading reviews that say they are not very efective.
Have been reading about electrolysis too. Wonder which one is more effective.

Electrolysis is permanent hair removal, whereas laser is technically hair reduction which needs ongoing top ups. I had a consultation at skin and they were very keen to point out it wouldn't be permanent without maintenance visits too. Also said the hair may just become fairer rather than be removed completely.

I don't have pcos and am looking at having hair removal on my body rather than face so can't advise on that, sorry. I find waxing every few weeks tedious so it must be dreadful having to maintain daily.

Am now leaning towards trying electrolysis first but have been advised it's more painful and time consuming, but worth it if the result is permanent IMO.

Zinher I've just finished a course of 8 at Skin. Upper lip, chin, jawline. The difference is absolutely amazing.

I had a long course of laser over 20 years ago and remained hair free up to a few years ago, when the peri-menopause really got going. I'm hairy all over but it's only my face that really got me down.

i don't have pcos but whatever problem I do have was definitely made worse during puberty and again menopause. Some of the hairs on my chin were so thick I could barely pull them out with tweezers. Was told they are the most successful to treat :)

I've been very impressed with Skin. Professional, friendly and I really felt confident that they knew what they're doing. I've booked a course of 3 top up treatments that I can have as and when if needed. It may not be permanent but as long as they say it's ok with your pcos, it certainly can last for a very long time indeed in my experience.

I've had laser hair removal on my legs, underarms and bikini line, paying for a course of 6 sessions per area. After the first session at least 80% of the hair was gone, but not all hair follicles are active at the same time, so it is important to go back and attend all the sessions, usually between 4 and 6 weeks apart. I had my hair removal done at cosmetic clinics by certified doctors using medical grade lasers, which target individual hair follicles and are incredibly powerful (and almost completely pain free). Do be aware that no hair removal is ever completely permanent. After a few years, you may find that you have a few, soft, downy hairs reappearing, in which case it might be necessary to go for one or two top up sessions.

Beware of having hair removal done by beauticians at salons that offer IPL hair removal (Intense Pulse Light) rather than targeting individual hairs - IPL just blasts the laser over the entire area and is far less effective (not to mention more painful).

Laser hair removal can be expensive, but I've always paid for mine through deal sites such as Groupon, Living Social, Wowcher etc, so it's worked out as £99 per area, as opposed to the £500 - £1000 they charge normally,

I couldn't recommend laser hair removal enough - no more razors / waxing / tweezing - it saves so much time and stress!

I've never needed to have the treatment done on my face so I can't comment on that, but I can't imagine that the experience would be much different from that which I've detailed above.
