Fur fillet

So I bought a fur gillet in century 21 when I was in New York last Xmas time. It was bloody freezing and I thought they were so warm. The problem is I also like the way they looked. My style is quite simple- black slim coupe trousers merino or cashmere slouchy jumpers, white tops, michael kors leather jacket, loafers or brogues etc accesorized with a nice watch and simple clean dark bob and rose gold pendant.

So fast forward to now back in England and I just don't know if ican wear it. Is it totally unacceptable? I do know people who wear them but they are wealthy ladies who lunch and that's not me!! I've just had a baby also so it's not terribly practical and sometimes I feel a bit too neat for a new mum and not colourful or mumsy enough!

Essentialy what do you think- can I wear it?

Oh bugger. Not a fur fillet autocorrect

Errr. You don't need to worry about looking mumsy or not. If you like it, wear it.
I love mine. I am neither mumsy or wealthy.

VixxFace · 14/03/2015 00:22

I have a white one which I wore today with a black dress. I am not mumsy or wealthy either.

Wherediparkmybroom · 14/03/2015 07:51

I wear fur in fact in have three, a white rabbit jacket, a knee length mink, and a pretty manky looking fox that was my first and I love. Warm as toast look lovley and all vintage. But be prepared for some dodgy looks!

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/03/2015 07:58

Is it real fur?

I have a shearling gilet I wear a lot with jeans and cashmere jumpers - it is super cosy.

And do you want to look colourful??

oigetoffmycheese · 14/03/2015 08:07

Mine isn't real but it looks fab

BallroomWithNoBalls · 14/03/2015 08:11

I wouldn't buy real fur in the first place personally. But you've got it now, so you may as well wear it. I want a fake one, I think this every spring and haven't got around to getting one, the nice ones are always too £££ for me. I love the look you describe.

burnishedsilver · 14/03/2015 10:26

I think people would just assume it's fake.

Sleepyhoglet · 14/03/2015 13:10

Yes it is real fur. One of my friends will only eat game and only meat if ethically sourced so I feel I can't wear it around her. She's quite forthright so would probably question me!

I think it's ok in places like New York or Russia because it's so bloody cold. Fur is pretty mainstream in shops unlike here

I don't think I have seen anyone wear real fur for years. If it looks real be prepared for some flack.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/03/2015 13:47

I reckon there is a lot of real fur round nowadays but people just assume it is faux.

Lots of parkas etc have real fur trims.

tak1ngchances · 14/03/2015 13:49

Flack? I can't see why. I'm sure a lot of the people casting aspersions wear leather and eat meat from sources that are less than perfect

Sleepyhoglet · 14/03/2015 14:49

Unfortunately it's not baby sick friendly! Thanks for the advice and opinions

OP posts:
Bunbaker · 14/03/2015 15:10

I'm sure you are right tak1ng, but wearing fur is an emotive subject to many people nonetheless. People see it differently to leather wearing and meat eating.

ThatBloodyWoman · 14/03/2015 15:12

Real fur -totally unacceptable.

SukieTuesday · 14/03/2015 15:14

If you don't mind that the animal was skinned alive to give you a gillet, feel free.

Pannacotta · 14/03/2015 15:22

Meat even...

Pannacotta · 14/03/2015 15:31

Oh my previous message disappeared..
Fur isn't the same as eating meat or wearing leather.
Fur farming is awful.
Why not give it away OP?

Sleepyhoglet · 14/03/2015 15:35

Well I've had it over a year and still haven't worn it out, probably because I do feel it isn't right.

OP posts:
HollyBollyBooBoo · 14/03/2015 15:36

Why would you give it away when that means someone else would wear it?

If you're ethically comfortable with it wear it, if you're not, burn it and don't buy it again.
