Why does grey marl look hideous on me yet the same grey tone in block colour works?

WHy is everywhere selling everything grey marled? I can wear nearly any shade of grey except when it is flecky. Anyone know why one work yet the other can look utterly vile?

Its because its vibrational energy, of cliquey sports dullards is in opposition to yours. If you get 'sport cunt' printed on it in cynical riot grrrl text you will be fine..honest injun

Grey marl is very casual. Maybe it's too casual looking for you.

SludgeBrown · 14/03/2015 07:46

Grey marl is a soft cool colour and if you fall into this category, you'll look great. If you don't, it's one of the harder colours to pull off IMO. Are you warm skinned? And do you have quite a strong look (eg dark hair with bright eyes for example). This could be the reason although there are other palettes that can't really pull off marl grey.

NeitherHereOrThere · 14/03/2015 09:06

I don't look good in grey marl as well although grey is one of my good colours - I put it down to it being too casual/scruffy looking for my personality/style.

Greengardenpixie · 14/03/2015 10:45

There are also different shades of grey marl.nsome look dirty.Others are pale and fresh.

KissyBoo · 14/03/2015 11:44

That's the thing though -I'm not talking about sweatshirt material but things like cotton/jersey tops and cashmere jumpers. As soon as it has flecks in it/marled it looks wrong yet I can pull off any other plain shade of grey whether it be icy,mid or dark, warm or cool toned. I just find it weird and wonder why so much grey stuff is marled at the moment?

I can't be alone in finding it unflattering.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Smile

Sludge - I do have pretty high contrast colouring. Neutral skintone that leans a little cool, muted dark grey blue eyes and dark cool toned hair that is turning high contrast salt and pepper.

My best colour is black by a mile followed by dark Navy, Pure white and grey. What I don't get is why marled therefore washes me out so much when I can wear white.

I also have this issue and it took me ages to understand that it was the marl that didn't suit me. Not a clue why though!
I look awful casual so that might be a clue.

KissyBoo · 14/03/2015 12:02

It's weird isn't it Surf?

Am sorting out my closet at the moment as am transitioning to grey so am getting rid of colours that won't work with my natural hair-hence the question.

I bet someone will have an answer that makes sense!

I'm the same. It's because someone with winter colouring which it sounds like you have, needs a strong clear colour. Light or dark, but always clear, not soft and muted. So anything with a small pattern, or tiny flecks like grey marl, isn't high contrast, it's soft and muted. You could take the grey and white of grey marl, have them together in a wide stripe and that would be great, but tiny flecks are no good.

KissyBoo · 14/03/2015 12:31

Thanks jan- really helpful explanation Flowers

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Often the flecks are cream rather than white. Particularly so if it's something with wool in it.
