How should I dress my big frame?

I went through my work clothes (going back in September) and realised that most of my outfits make me look like a lumberjack, especially my shirts.

I am 5'7 and a size 14, so a bit overweight but not very fat. However, I have wide shoulders, big arms (rather muscular so they look OK), big legs. I have a good waist though.

Could you suggest work clothes that don't make me look like a lumberjack? I am a teacher.

I am similarly sized - a couple of inches taller if that makes any difference :)

Have the sturdy thighs (runner) and strong arms.

I find that the more fitted the clothes are the better I look. So obviously you don't want to wear skin tight body con dresses in school -but some trousers which fit. To be worn with long sleeved tshirt/tops which aren't too blousony. Highlight the rib cage and waist.

A lot of fashions I can instantly look at and say no way. The floaty, pouffy chiffony type tops do not do anything for me.

i also like to wear v thick tights/leggings and fairly shortish skirts - above the knee at least. Wear with fitted jumpers etc.

I find that shirts make me look big. I like the idea of them - particularly the checked ones in the shops right now, but unless they fit perfectly then I just look large.

Thank you. I have fitted trousers, so I will look for new tops.
What would look smart / professionnal if I have to give up on shirts?

This type of top ?

top

Perhaps not that exact one - but something which is fitted to your shape- not hanging. I think they look smart - can always wear a jacket with it - or scarf or something.

I say avoid this type bubble

As the top finishes right on the hips - and disguises any hint of a waist or shape in the mid torso.

But that's just my opinion - I am not an expert have spent years trying to look smaller though
