urgent! getting hair cut at 10am..38 week's pregnant...longer or shorter with New baby?!

Just that really, going to give my Hairdresser a shock as I haven't been in since being pregnant, decided to have a go at growing my hair, it's wavy/ringletty curly when I dry it naturally, loads of it but fine ish. Doesn't really do what it's told like dd Just getting to the bottom of my neck now (normally grows like a weed but not at all whilst I've been pregnant) and I'm undecided if it's going to be easier and look less shit on the school run with dd and a newborn when I haven't had time to wash my hair let alone straighten etc, to have it longer (to tie back, can just do that now) or to have it shorter, less to wash/dry/less hassle cutting every 8 week's/less cost.
Just don't know! Would post a photo but I look a state...Confused

I would keep it long so you can tie it up

SpaghettiMeatballs · 12/03/2015 07:50

I've had mine cut after both babies to stop me putting it in a ponytail all the time and force me to style it.

I'd keep it long for now so you can tie it up to get through the worst of the sleep depravation and then get it cut.

I think mine were about 8-10 weeks old when I felt I wanted to smarten myself up a bit!

SunnyL · 12/03/2015 07:53

Long. I made the mistake of going short and in every photo I looked like a fright. long can be tied back and still look good. Good luck with the new baby Brew

sosix · 12/03/2015 07:55

Long so you can just shove it up.

missmakesstuff · 12/03/2015 08:10

Maybe I can ask him to keep the length then I reckon all Hairdressers hate that phrase and do something with the front so its not just scraped back..fringe or not? Just spent 9 months growing one out! Can straighten that with little hassle. Then again, a side longer one might be better. me with a side below, I've had a heavyish short firing before and liked it but not sure about now I've a fat face...

I don't think you have a fat face. Doing something at the front sounds great to avoid the scrapped back look. Best of both worlds. You'll look good and have to convenience of not needing to blow dry it.

That's my problem with long hair. I do just scrape it back and I'm naturally blonde so it's a bit darker underneath so it almost looks greasy when I brush it back iyswim?

I think it's a lot easier to pull off hair up if you are a brunette.

SoMuchForSubtlety · 12/03/2015 08:16

I think fringes with wavy hair are problematic (I speak from experience!) - if you don't straighten them they look a bit messy, if you do straighten them they look frizzy and a bit straw-like.

I'd stick with long and talk to your hairdresser about maybe razor cutting in some irregular layers for texture to keep the length but avoid the Christmas tree shape that wavy hair gets as you grow it. Just don't let them put in nice neat layers, that only really works on straight hair (again speaking from experience, my hair is similar to yours although a bit wilder).

missmakesstuff · 12/03/2015 09:31

It usually is wilder, I must have actually done something nice to it there! Face definitely looking a bit fat now, that's a non pregnant photo. You're right about fringes though, I would also have to get it trimmed, it's free but I remember doing it when Dd was 8 days old after a cs, cause I couldn't see... def want to avoid triangular hair, it's how it looks at the moment..

He does often straighten my hair too, it does look fab but I might say can you do it curly to check how it's going to look.

CurlsLDN · 12/03/2015 09:48

Long! Like a pp I chopped mine off in a pre baby moment of madness, and now when I look at the hospital photos or photos of the first few weeks all I can see is my horrid hair!

missmakesstuff · 12/03/2015 10:00

Yep, was thinking my decision making skills might be a bit suspect at the moment....

Can still tie back and he just dried a little bit with a diffuser and a bit of mousse, with some curl creme on it later at home when it was totally dry it looks ok. Few layers but. Not as unruly or triangular..

Thanks all Blush ing here! I do the colour myself, but after yet another pregnancy induced stupid moment, I did it the other day and threw the box away...I want to say it's garnier nutrisse and I think it's cherry something, looks almost purple/red in the light, very dark though and stains the pillowcases for a few days after, but seems to last Well, I'm a mousey Brown/reddish colour normally.
He has done it well, he was a bit put out he couldn't do swishy hair and had to let me leave with it damp, but at least I don't have to do that thing where you wash it a day or so later and see what it really looks like! It's not drastic so dh will barely notice...
