Winter wedding in the countryside - shoes

A cousin is still deliberating over where to have their wedding this winter but so far all possible locations were in some country houses. What do people do? I don't really want boots or flats but I suspect walking from a chapel to reception would be a complete torture with heals on. Also how do you plan for snow?

Honestly, I'd wear boots with a low to medium heel to the church and outside, and bring a spare pair to wear to the wedding breakfast. My mum is Austrian, and I grew up attending Vienna's famous balls which usually take place in January and February. All the ladies there wear boots under their ball gowns and change into their ball shoes that are carried in a small bag. It's much better than stumbling around in high heels in the snow and ice. I am very pragmatic and practical, and my clothing and shoe choices are driven by weather and location conditions.

I agree. I'd bring a change of shoes.

Yes, I agree. Change of shoes. I suspect others will do the same so you won't look out of place.

Thank you. I quite like boots but my impression is that British are supremely impractical when it comes to dressier occasions, so I thought I'd be completely out of place in something suitable. Grin I grew up in cold climate too so change of shoes would come naturally to me. Should I get dressy shoes, suede maybe?

I live rurally. We regularly wear wellies (filthy yard where the cars are parked) then change into shoes when we arrive.
Not suggesting you wear wellies to a wedding Grin but no one will bat an eyelid if you wear boots then change into posh shoes for the reception.
