I dyed lmy hair today ...for the first time at home..usually lhighlights etc at toni and guy..worked out great..had a few stray greys ..didn't feel ready for them..now feel young again! this has inspired me to think about re assessing my image.do i need updating?..i think i do! have decided am going to make a concious effort with my wardrobe, jewellry, skin care ..drinking lots of water etc...used to once! Some people always look so well turned out even with children. How do some women stay so stick thin? I have decided it is now or never!!

I decided back in January to join weightwatchers and losing nearly 2 stone has given me a new lease of life and I now take lots of interest in how I look and what I wear, it's been great. I feel as though I have given myself a make over and have bags more confidence and energy because of it. Apart from the fact I have quite a lot of spots and really dry hair (which is a whole other thread) I think I have never looked so good outside of my teenage years. Go for it lemonysnickett!!
I used to never wear patterned clothes, now I am more daring and love wearing colour rather than black. I would also only wear really practical shoes now I love heels. My weight loss really triggered something in me.
My advice would be get some magazines, trawl the style section on here, a new bra and a new hair do! You've already started with the new hair!

Mee too! I've been asking for advice recently on the Style forum to help me get some new clothes. I was fed up of dressing in ill fitting cothes and looking a mess!

I've bought a few new items and plan to get a couple more things and it feels brilliant! I used to lack confidence in my appearance and felt that people would laugh if I wore the latest things (not that I like all latest looks but sometimes I want to try it) but since having DD 8.5 months ago I now feel like I know WHO I am which spurred on my makeover.

Not sure how women stay stick thin though - if anyone finds out please let me know!

Lucy

Me too!
I lost some weight and am trying to smarten myself up , find that hard as I never get chance to dress smart

when I see all those yummy mummies I cry inside, I do try to make an effort but dd 14 months usally sprays food, snot etc over me the first five minutes out of house, hence I live in combats and black tees. and my hair goes limp really quickly. just bas well I dont go out at night that often.

mosschops30 · 28/10/2006 20:28

I dont think its about being thin, there are some very thin mothers at dd's school who look bloody awful (you know trousers dont reach their ankles, orange waterproof coats) sometimes I just wanna shout 'dont you look in the mirror'.

What i'm trying to say it, you dont have to be thin, or rich or have loads of nice clothes. Just well fitted, key pieces are enough to make you look wonderful.

MrsBadger · 28/10/2006 20:28

(NB if you want an excuse for new clothes, remember black tops show the food/sick/snot much worse than patterned ones...)

nikkie · 28/10/2006 22:11

I can't wear patterned stuff and am finding it very hard to find stuff atm that isn't the same.

NappiesGalore · 28/10/2006 22:17

i thank the karma gods (or whatever) for my little sister who is infinately cooler, more effortlessly stylish and more in touch with the world. (and childless, obviously )

she sorts me out now and then, so i dont just turn into a big blob of style-less mummyness.

therefore, no. i dont really need a makeover because i am actually more fabulous looking than ive ever been!

NappiesGalore · 28/10/2006 22:20

and mosschops is on the money there. i was looking at random peeps the other day and thinking; why is it that lots of thin people seem to wear lycra at all times just because theyre thin, when frankly, lots of them are not that nicely shaped?'

which is a bit needlessly bitchy really, but there you go. i didnt actually say it to anyone so im sure it cant hurt them

Gobbledispook · 28/10/2006 22:26

Agree, some thin people look bloody awful. Thin does not always = stylish.

Great to hear that you guys are happy with yourselves! I think it really is important to feel good about yourself..looking good does give you confidence..makes you feel good. Sometimes people get stuck in a rut and end up letting themselves go..ultimately you obviously have to feel happy from within.but i have surprised myself how lmuch it all goes hand in hand.

Went swimming for i hour today and then for a steam...ran on treadmill for 40 minutes and swam for half an hour yesterday....am planning to go 3 times this week and then saturday and sunday...i feel really inspired! Thanks for your responses...motivation is great black dress in whistles for our christmas party!!
