Whistles knee length black tube skirt - styling?

SuperFlyHigh · 11/03/2015 17:52

I've just found whistles knee length black tube skirt, I style it with ankle boots and opaques generally and whatever top I can think of.... Any ideas, what would work?

I like it but am conscious it's black and tight and rides up a bit and want to style it up a bit.

Ideas please! Thanks. Smile

I've got the navy one and have never worn it one year later for the same reason. It looks a bit 80's work gear. Maybe we should be dressing it down? I know there are some big fans on MN.

Turquoiseblue · 11/03/2015 19:02

I layer tube skirts a bit with long vest tanks and casual knitted sweaters.
T shirts in summer and slouchy blazers
I do find footwear a problem- bikers - no, ankle boots -meh, superga s - are ok - ish. Loafers - no! Ballet shoes - so so...... Maybe it s just me .....

SuperFlyHigh · 11/03/2015 19:50

clara I'm pleased it's not just me feels this way with all the love for them here on s&b I was feeling unsure but yes dressing down was what I was looking for...Smile

Thanks turquoise for the ideas.

I tgink they are better as casual wear. I don't have a Whistles one but have several others. They look best with opaques, casual boots and layered looser tops/long cardigan or layered tshirts. I think they look good with sandalsin summer. I have tried with blouses and they look too formal. But fine with cotton shell tops (again not too tight) or better still a looser fit tshirt.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 11/03/2015 20:35

I struggle with tube skirts in winter tbh - in summer I wear my cream marl and grey marl Hush ones with flat sandals and a loose tee or vest. Mine are fairly loose fitting - I did have a Topshop black one that was tight all the way down iyswim and it never felt right with flats, but too 80s for work.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/03/2015 21:11

Ah well that's where I'm going wrong! Will save for playtime as it is too 80s for work!

Anymore ideas?

I admit I purchased one like the sheep I am and it is still hasn't been worn.

Greengardenpixie · 12/03/2015 07:37

I am the same. I have a navy one and its never worn. I have a funky spotty one and have worn it more. I wear it with fly london wedge shoes and a longish tunic over the top.

mewkins · 12/03/2015 07:42

Sweatshirt?
Can you roll in up a bit shorter? Above the knee looks a bit more casual.

coffeenut · 12/03/2015 08:04

I have at least five Blush.

The plain coloured ones are a little harder to style as you can look too worky/formal/even frumpy. My general rules for the plain navy/black/charcoal ones:

When it's warm: loose print tshirt or shell-top, or fitted print, marl or striped vest. Flat or wedge sandals (could do sneakers too). Don't wear with a shirt or blouse.

When it's cold: heeled ankle boots and slouchy knit. Tights.

Floisme · 12/03/2015 08:23

Wearing one today (below the knee) with a long stretchy T under a cropped, boxy sweatshirt. I also like them with a slouchy jumper or T shirt or an oversize plaid shirt. Or sometimes with a fitted jacket or buttoned up, round neck cardi.

Ankle boots (flat or low, chunky heel) or plimsolls in the summer.

Can you tell I wear them loads!

noddyholder · 12/03/2015 08:26

I like with tight black t shirt and then big sloppy type jumper opaques and heels ankle boots. In summer I probably wouldn't wear much although cold look nice with very plain t shirt and plimsolls

Turquoiseblue · 13/03/2015 17:21

Wearing one today - a quilted sort of textured black with cos black jumper, opaques and ankle boots and coloured Becksondergard scarf to brighten up (leather jacket when out)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/03/2015 17:39

I love them, and like them to ride up a bit shorter tbh.

In Summer I wear them with a loose t-shirt, bare legs and Converse.

Otherwise with opaques, whatever top, boots and a biker jacket.

HmmAnOxfordComma · 13/03/2015 17:53

In winter, I wear mine with (tights, flat boots), longline vest and slouchy jumper or tight top of some sort and stripy blazer.

FuckingLiability · 14/03/2015 09:33

I was actually thinking of getting one of these as I really like the length. Are they OK for more curvy figures (size 14) or will I just look chubby?

SuperFlyHigh · 14/03/2015 10:57

fuckingliability I'm a 12 verging on a 14 and they're flattering the whistles ones especially sort of hold/suck you in. Wear control pants otherwise but I really didn't need to!

Ps you should look fine I meant!

Grin

Thanks! I'm near a Whistles today, might pop in and try one on.

SuperFlyHigh · 14/03/2015 12:39

Grazia are doing a 25% off whistles voucher so try to grab that if you buy it, was what I did.

I'm a 12 and a 10 or 12 Whistles skirt both fit and have wonderful sucking in properties. I often get asked if I've lost weight when I wear them (I haven't).

Floisme · 14/03/2015 15:00

i agree the way they hold you in is amazing! I also find the just-below-the-knee length is kinder on my thighs than the shorter one.

FuckingLiability · 14/03/2015 18:25

Annoyingly, they didn't have my size in the shop, but given how enthusiastic you all are about them I'll order one online. I liked the fabric of the ones I saw too.

Oly4 · 15/03/2015 09:15

I have one and wore it once with a slouchy jumper. My DH said I still looked like I was off to work. One of my s&b mistakes

mirpuppet · 15/03/2015 09:24

Thanks for the ideas.

I may wait for bare leg weather to wear mine as I'm not enjoying wearing tights this winter.

I also want to wear flat shoes.
