I would use a moisturiser without SPF and instread use a sun block on top.

I like clinique city block and LRP antihelios (sp?)

Oh I really hope 34 doesn't count as "mature" skin!

I second what chocnwine says. To get a proper dose of spf you need a really thick layer of moisturiser which either gets expensive or greasy so you'd be better using a separate sunscreen.

I like Clinique City block too. By far the best non-greasy one I've tried. I often don't use daily moisturiser as well but when I do I use daywear by Estée Lauder.

I've used City Block for over 20 years and love it. I've also recently tried Lauder Day Wear lotion which has an SPF of 40 but you apply such a small amount that it's hard to know how it performs so I am still slapping city block on top. You need something like a 10ps worth all over your face so dermos say and don't expect any SPF to last all day - it's like sun cream and if it's very hot you need to re-apply. In very hot weather if I am outdoors I slap more on over my foundation.

Oh and 34 is young- wait until you are near 60 before you dare use the word mature!

Fairylea · 11/03/2015 09:49

I expected to open this and read you were 60+ ! 34 is not old and is not mature in terms of skincare! (Ex clinique and chanel consultant).

I am 34 myself.

You need a good moisturiser - any of her are good - Nivea Q10, Nivea in the blue pot, Astral and at the higher end moisture surge or dramatically different from clinique. (Although personally I wouldn't spend loads even though I used to work in premium cosmetics).

You are far better to buy a separate sunblock like clinique city block (they do different spfs, go for the highest one). This is because a moisturiser is supposed to sink into your skin, whereas a sunblock works better if it sits on the top.

*these not her

Jackiekatu aren't you too young for age spots? Are you sure it's not hyperpigmentation caused by something like melasma? See dermatologist Dr Bunting's chat on here which deals with that. I agree with the others about separate moisturiser and spf. To really protect yourself and stop the spots worsening you will need a minimum of spf 30, 50 in the summer, in a hot country or if you are outside a lot. Product wise there's quite a lot out there (see my post on the most recent hyperpigmentation thread in the style and beauty section). I would go for a physical rather than a chemical sunscreen. I didn't get on with the Clinique, but I am medium/olive skinned and it left a white cast on my face, however my aunt (red hair, blue eyes, very pale skin) used it for years and got on well with it.

I'm 37 and rate Alpha H SPF 50 day cream. Non greasy and no whiteness making you looks like a ghost (yes Neal's yard rose sunscreen I'm looking at u! Hmm).
The only problem I've had with it is the pump dispenser broke so I can't get it out now!

Thank you everybody , going to try city block definitely but a bit stuck with which moisturiser to go with it , thank you once again for all your advice

If it is due to insufficient sunscreen...be aware that SPF moisturisers are designed for those who go from shop to lunch to spa and see little daylight.

There's a British Association of Dermatologists webpage on the subject; they know what they talking about.

use some real suncream.
