Calling all fashionistas. I need an outfit for a day at the races, I want to look stylish and funky. Please help anyone who might have some suggestions.

We went for the first time last year. I would say Cheltenham is a 'serious' race on the racing calendar so it's not exactly glamorous, added to that, it's March and likely to be cold. Furthermore its full of p**d up people so. there is no place for high fashion and heels. And unless you are on full hospitality there is bugger all places to sit so you will be on your feet all day. I believe it is known for the 'Cheltenham Tweed' so most people will have tweed jackets, jeans, trousers, boots. Think country set, Jack Wills, Joules types....

I agree with Secrersout. We went for a few years. It's not stylish at all. It will be so busy that there will be nowhere to sit so you will be standing and walking/bumping into people all day.

Oh and this year more than ever....almost every bloke will look like a Peaky Blinder. We're going tomorrow. Enjoy

Please tell me there are seats in the club section I can't stand all day!!

Sorry, no. Well there is if you get there about 8am and don't move your bum from it all day. And even if you get a seat you will be jostled all day. The bars are totally rammed and you can't take your drinks outside. So the format is, queue at bar (10 deep), throw drink down throat, run outside to place bet, watch race, go for wee, queue at bar (10 deep) etc. That's how it goes really. We went on gold cup day last year, maybe the other days are more civilised

I'd recommend a smart coat (preferably tweed), knee boots and a furry hat. It will be cold so doesn't really matter what you wear below the coat as it's unlikely to come off.

Can someone please confirm I'll be sartorially adequate in dark jeans, boots, furry hat, Barbour jacket and cashmere scarf, please? The thought of wearing a skirt and heels (pretty sure my knee boots no longer zip all the way up Blush ) is making me feel cold already.

Yes that would be fine- boots are a must for walking between all the different areas. Maybe it's just me but I found it way more hectic than the National, Ascot, Derby etc. There just doesn't seem to be much space!

The wind does seem to zip round the course and follow you about, so err on the side of warmth!

The classic Cheltenham outfit seems to be: brown or green skirt suit, big brown hat and knee boots, but you could certainly wear trousers. It's quite old-fashioned in that you don't have to be fashionable/trendy but people are well-groomed rather than scruffy.

Nice blazer or gilet over smart top (e.g. nice polo neck) with trousers or skirt would be fine.

Have fun-I won £300 there once!
