If you have lost a good amount of weight, what did you do clothes wise?

I am 1.5 stone down with the same to go again. Trousers are currently hanging off me and tops will be soon as well. I don't want to spend vast amounts on clothes but was going to try local charity shops - very rarely anything in our ones for anyone under about 75.

What did you do mid weight loss?

Sell the high value stuff on EBay. Donate the rest.

Until you reach your goal, buy cheap stuff on EBay and from charity shops.

When you hit goal, treat yourself to a whole new wardrobe. And never let it creep back on!!

Well done on your weight loss so far Thanks Thanks .

No advice, only that you're right not to want to spend significant money mid-loss. I lost almost four and a half stone this past autumn and winter, and bought myself some beautiful clothes half way as a way of encouraging myself - they now look ridiculously big, apart from some slouchy, oversized knitwear. But they were encouraging!

I've lost two stone with two and a half still to go. Once I hit the two stone mark last week I threw out everything that was too big or was bought purely to try and hide how fat I was (but wasn't really me) I also threw out all the stuff I had bought over the years that hadn't been worn or I wasn't 100% happy with (8 black bags including expensive items that has never been work away to charity Blush)

I then sorted through the clothes I had left and worked out what few items I could buy to make up outfits with what I already had to tide me over to the next big loss.

Funny thing is even though I thrown so much away I now have so many more clothes as everything in my wardrobe now fits where as before I was just using the same few things I knew I could get into.

I just bought the bare minimum, so one pair of jeans, one pair of work trousers-cheaply- asda/ebay . I just wore my tops baggy.

I also cut a few things down myself; obviously if you cant sew you will need more things.

This way I could spend the money when I got to the size I wanted to be.

I am still wearing some ridiculous pjs that could fit two of me at once. They will get replace eventually.

Skinheadmermaid · 10/03/2015 22:29

I lost six stone a few years ago and had to replace everything.
Then I regained a stone and had to replace everything again.
Sigh.
All my clothes are cheap because my weight goes up and down, and if i'm training my muscles grow and I burst out of shirts like the hulk.
Sorry my advice is rubbish but you have my sympathies.

I lost 4 stone on the Cambridge diet last year. I bought stuff from Primark/H&M mainly or in the sales. I've completely replaced my wardrobe since and am have turned into a bit of a shopoholic!

Itscurtainsforyou · 11/03/2015 21:20

I second ebay, especially if you can buy clothing bundles.

Also (I know this is against the dieting rules) don't throw out all that doesn't fit. I've kept a few items that I really love in each size. That way when I put on weight after my second pregnancy I had clothes that I liked wearing in each size and I didn't have to buy all over again.

Well done on your weight loss, it's a great achievement Smile

Can I ask I how you lost it and how long it took? Well done to you Flowers

I think it's hard to beat tesco for value when you just need transitional clothes.

bryonyelf · 12/03/2015 06:49

Thanks everyone.

I started on 5 January. I have been watching carbs and doing 5:2. Cutting back on 5:2 now though.

I've lost 3 stone - trying to lose a bit more. Tops & coats I'm just making do with, and bought minimum possible amount of trousers from eBay or on sale.
