And once again, for the girl in the back who wasn't paying attention, what is the difference between flares and bootcuts

Reposting a pic I snapped a couple of weeks ago -
Bottom pair, 7FAM Ginger flares (my Marrakech are fraction less flared)
Top pair, 7FAM bootcuts
The difference is 5cm - 2"

And once again, for the girl in the back who wasn't paying attention, what is the difference between flares and bootcuts

Thanks Frugal - I can only see one picture though! So, is the difference just the width at the bottom? There is no difference in the cut higher up?

The flares in the pic are poking out from under the boot cut I think.

Aahh - thanks Rogan, now I understand!

Width at the bottom seems to be the main difference.
Flares
Bootcut

I thought flares started from higher up the calf than bootcuts.

So flares start widening, an inch below the knee and bootcuts, half way down your calf.

I like the look of those Ginger flares. May need to suffer the hideous awfulness of jeans trying-on. [shudders]

(I currently have several pairs of jeans but they're all either J Brand 811s or J Brand Anyas, as I know they fit. I fear other jeans.)

dexter73 · 10/03/2015 17:28

That makes sense Coumarin, as the flares need to end up so much wider at the bottom than the bootcut, they would need to start going out from higher up to do this.

Aren't we over-thinking it a bit? In the 70s there were lots of different shaped flares - some wide and some narrow. (As I remember, it was mainly teenage boys who wore those mahoosive wide-all-the-way-down ones.) I just think of flares as being a bit wider than bootcuts and that's it.
