Dress for upcoming weddings

My SIL is getting married in Brisbane in August and my brother has chosen Hawaii Jan 2016 for his wedding so I'm thinking of getting a nice dress to do both events. I saw this tonight and really like it

And this but not available in my size anywhere...

The only thing is I need to carry on with losing weight, at least a stone hopefully two before August. I'm quite busty, average height, currently a loose 16, another stone will be a 14 another after that would be a loose 14 id say.

I think the fit and flare style is best for me, I want to be comfortable, i hate control underwear so need something that hides my tummy. Ideally id like little sleeves as my upper arms are not my favourite body part and realistically I can't see me getting super toned tho I'm working on it.

Also quite like the 50's vintage, hell bunny / rockabilly type dresses but need a lower neckline due to bosoms :) I've never worn one before but a friend has one, burgundy with black flocked design and black petticoat, it looked really great and comfortable!

Or do I wait til the last minute when the weight is off and hit the high street and get the best of what's available??

Any inspiration for the stylistically challenged would be appreciated!

How about this ?

You could probably size down due to the extra bust room.

Link fail - will try again

this

thanks Pumpkinette the weddings will be quite fancy so I think I need something a little more special occasion than that dress.

Anyone else feel like chiming in on the Phase Eight dress / suitability of the vintagey petticoat dresses for weddings... are they comfortable / flattering???

I'm sobbing quietly over the fact that I cannot afford the phase eight dress and have nowhere to wear it if I could. It's lovely.

kiwidreamer · 10/03/2015 19:16

It is nice then??? I often get these things very very wrong, and of course its no guarantee it will look nice on but as the weddings are different sides of the family I think it will be fine to wear it to both occasions, £70 a wear gulp bhahahahaha. I think I'd get the pink / black one if it were available in a bigger size, its a little more blend in than the lighter dress but I think its very pretty... can not skinny people wear light colours like that?

The phase8 dress is very nice, but I would hold off until nearer the event in case you don't stay on course... Sad miserable thought I know.

I have never been to an Australian wedding, but all the ones I havd seen look waaaay more formal so you would need a jacket too, I think.
Also I imagine that a Hawaiian wedding to be a bit less formal, so that might be overdressed?

Not sure that is actually any help!

ilovekittycats · 11/03/2015 02:08

I have just bought that Phase 8 Matilda dress! Size 10 was the biggest they have but it may be too small as I am really a 12 but you never know, it may fit!

I am going to a wedding in October and it would look lovely with a black jacket that I have and maybe a shrug for the evening do?? I do need to cover my arms as although not fat they are flabby. Any ideas for a nice dressy shrug/cardigan anyone?

I am now thinking maybe it is a bit young for me as I am almost 60 (but in my head I am still 21 LOL). I have lost a couple of stone in the last few months so trying to find what suits me all over again.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 11/03/2015 02:14

I'm not keen I'm afraid - I think they look a little like a teenage girl bridesmaid dress

I think you need to wait until you know the dress code / more details (eg is it a beach wedding in Hawaii? A formal hotel do requiring a hat?) and when you have a better idea of your size and shape. Fabulous dresses don't look fabulous if they don't fit

kiwidreamer · 11/03/2015 19:43

The OZ wedding is outdoors at a lovely restaurant in the bush and Hawaii is on the beach. Knowing the couples (close family) I think the weddings will be classic, vintagey and beautiful.

If I wait til July wont I end up with the season's leftovers?

I love the first one! Think it would be fine with a jacket for the Aussie wedding (it probably won't be scorching in August). I was at my cousin's wedding in Sydney in October and there was a big variety of outfits, though I agree perhaps more formal than a UK wedding.

If you can get to a shop you could always try it in your current size to see if it suits you as a starting point. If not order in two sizes - if you see the real thing you could get more of an idea whether you might fit the smaller size if you lose some weight!

kiwidreamer · 11/03/2015 21:43

Its not often things are more formal in Australia! I wavered after the not keen comment but its the only thing I've seen that draws me back. I shall go and try on this week. I have a friend who is a very good seamstress and she's offered to do alterations for me.

Oh I was going to say was going to team it with the blush / nude knitted shrug teamed with the dress on the link above.

Wait until nearer the time. Pepperberry have some lovely dresses in this kind of style and they do free returns.
