Are you keen on Keens?

I need some new walking sandals that can cope with getting wet.
Are these lovely and comfy and guaranteed not to give me blisters? Wink
Can any Keen owners come along and tell me that they're ace and I should buy some?

They are seriously awful, sorry Sad Are they for wearing up hills, fields & outdoorsy activities, or the school run & shopping ?

dustdragon · 09/03/2015 22:25

I love Keens, I have the walking boots and also a couple of pairs of casual boots. They tend to be quite wide fitting and large sizing though so can be better to try on first. No idea what the sandals are like, but if you want them for serious walking, Keens, like all the US walking boots, arent very grippy if you are doing hill walking.

You can get better prices from some of the specialist outdoor shops than buying direct. www.gearforgirls.co.uk/brands/Keen.html

Hahahahahahaha! Wasn't looking for views on how they look Wink
Walking sandals. For walking. And getting wet. I meant for 'light' hiking and crossing rivers, not for when I'm off to Sainsburys and it happens to be raining!
Do you know if they are comfy was the question Grin

Thanks dustdragon (my earlier comment was for oxfordblue!)
Not for seriouswalking, no.
But I do have skinny feet, and am between sizes so you're right, I should try some on.
Have spotted a pair on eBay for £45...

I adore my keen sandals. Bought them for a festival nearly 9 years ago- and they are still going strong.
The most comfy footwear ever. Smile

Oxfordblue · 09/03/2015 22:52

Er, you asked if lovely ? So, to be correct, not lovely but possibly comfy & who knows about blisters WinkGrin

workJack · 09/03/2015 22:55

I love mine but they look awful on me. For some reason they make my feet look really long and skinny. Very comfy though!

expatinscotland · 09/03/2015 22:58

I love mine and do not have wide feet. We went to the Caribbean last summer and I wore them every day, all day. I have plantar fascitis and Achilles tendonitis and they were comfortable for all day walking. I have also worn them on any occasion that requires a lot of walking.

I have friends who use them regularly on light hikes/approaches in Colorado as they are lightweight and it can get very very hot there.

expatinscotland · 09/03/2015 22:59

I care not a jot how they look and they don't give you blisters. They are amazingly comfortable but do try on before you buy as I had to go up a half size. I tried mine on after a day of walking, too, so my feet were swollen.

dun1urkin · 09/03/2015 23:06

Sorry oxfordblue, you are quite correct, I did use the word lovely Grin I appreciate your clarification Wink
my clarification is that I didn't mean to look at I meant do they feel lovely on your feet
Everyone else, thank you for your comments and advice. They really do sound like just the ticket, I will go and try some on post haste

I have 4 pairs of Keens, including the ones similar to your link and I love them. They are so comfy. I do find my feet get quite warm in them though. I also have ones similar to your link but without the back which are excellent too.

RayofSun · 11/03/2015 23:46

Forgot to say that I also had to go up a size

highkickindandy · 12/03/2015 03:48

I have some similar sandals but with thicker straps - most comfy sandals ever. I've had them a few years and live in them in the summer - brilliant on holiday tramping about.
I went down a size, unlike other posters, so I agree try before you buy. They look and feel strange at first as they are very wide at the front.

Truckingalong · 12/03/2015 05:16

This is style and beauty, so it's all about style and beauty, right? And these are neither stylish nor beautiful. In fact, they are possibly the ugliest shoes I've ever seen. Clearly you care not one jot though!!!

BikeRunSki · 12/03/2015 05:46

My Keen approach shoes are my most comfortable footwear ever. Them and a pair of Smartwool socks and I am in Foot Heaven, and I have never had a problem with slippyness. I have broad feet.

iamEarthymama · 12/03/2015 05:56

Back in the day sandals meant the thinnest sliver of material I could manage on the highest heel. Some posters would find them lovely even though I could hardly walk.
These days comfort is all, but I also love the look of Keens, Art, DM sandals and shoes, fugly all the way for me.
I have a pair of Keen flip flop style that I have had for 5 years; I wear them constantly in the summer and on holiday.
So yes Keens are lovely! Ebay is a good place to look, also Raw shoes.

FrugalFashionista · 12/03/2015 06:02

For a walking sandal, these are actually not bad looking, loving the coral!
Ugly shoes are fashionable atm - Dr Scholls have already made it. I love beautiful things but practical and functional can be beautiful too!

And so Envy of hill walks!

expatinscotland · 12/03/2015 12:22

I have regular width feet and my Keens fit fine. I would recommend trying them on first, though.

Excellent. SO comfy.
