Recommend me a hand cream please

I've always had quite dry hands and now with 2 DC I'm washing my hands a whole lot more and with age not really on my side (am 35), I need a beast of hand cream that will sort out my scaly, lizard-like, ageing hands!

So, which are the best hand creams on the market please?

Thank you Smile

Going off topic, what hand wash are you using? After having DD me and DH both started having problems with ours hands.
We swapped over to Dettol + E45 handwash and have lovely soft hands now!

I noticed that my hands were getting scaly and sore so I am using Boots No.7 Protect and Perfect Intense currently. Its not a beast but I have applied several times a day for the last fiveish days and my hands look and feel better. Maybe get a couple while there is a 3 for 2 offer on? Mine is in my handbag and in front of me on my desk so I remember to reapply frequently.

I will use the Neutrogena Norweigan one overnight a couple of times this week (if I remember).

I find that anti bacterial hand wash makes my hands very dry indeed.

I'm a big fan of L'Occitane hand cream. It's thick, dries fast and doesn't leave your hands feeling slimy or sticky. My hands get really dry and sore from using soap and hand wash (generally the ones in public bathrooms and work) but this hand cream sorts it out in 5 seconds. DH also gets flare ups of very dry flakey skin on his forehead and he uses it on his head to clear it up.

I'm not so keen in the smell of the original Shea butter one but every other one I have tried I love. I'm currently using the cherry blossom one and that love the scent.

this stuff

The only thing that helps my hands is neutrogena.
Gloves in a bottle is also good. It's not a handcream but acts as a barrier.

Lumptysmum · 09/03/2015 16:34

I love Liz Earle's hand cream. My hands get cracked and bleed and it sorts them out.

SteveBrucesNose · 09/03/2015 16:48

The only one that's ever made a difference to me is the one that actually got used.

I spent ££ on a la prairie one, knowing that Id have to use it now Id spent that much on it. Continued use has left me with reasonable hands and not lizard hands. I'm not sure that it's particularly to do with the cream itself or the fact that I stuck with using it.

This is the nicest smelling hand cream ever! My hands have lasted the winter without getting horribly dry like they have previously when I haven't been using the cream.

maleenteringfemalefacilities · 09/03/2015 17:11

I'm using the Cien SOS hand concentrate from Lidl, I picked it up a couple of days ago and it is brilliant. The best one I had used before this was the Body Shop hemp one, but I wasn't mad about the smell.

Neutrogena Norwegian formula was so greasy that I ended up wiping it off each time I used it as I couldn't grip anything and was leaving a residue. The Cien one is very like it BUT is absorbed quickly. Has absolutely no smell either.

Can't stand Molton Brown - it's all just scent (and not even very nice scent at that).

Crabtree and Evelyn (a gardeners intensive one) wasn't very good - again, a lot of perfume.

My mum always used Atrixo, I sometimes use it if I'm in her house, but have never had a tube myself so couldn't tell you if it's good long term.

FrugalFashionista · 09/03/2015 17:17

I'm pretty sure some Lidl products are made by Beiersdorf (=home of Nivea, Eucerin, La Prairie!), feel so similar and usually great value.

Might give it a try in the future, thanks for the tip Wink

cressetmama · 09/03/2015 17:26

Atrixo is the best because it's so quickly absorbed and not greasy, followed by Aveeno. Have not tried the Hemp one. I'm with maleentering on Neutrogena, C&E and MB... have bottles of them all going begging.

Redrosesarethebest · 09/03/2015 17:30

The aldi pro age (burgundy tube) is the best I have found and my hands crack and get very sore. My DP who works with his hands in a tough work environment also uses it after his shifts and you would never think he did a very tough job

TakesTwoToTango · 09/03/2015 17:38

This is totally amazing

Pricey (£21) and only available (that I've found) in store in uk (not online) but liquid gold! The other tip that they gave me which has made such a difference to my lizard hands has been to exfoliate regularly. No idea why it didn't occur to me before (suspect I am the only woman in UK who wasn't exfoliating her hands) Blush but the combination of the two is transformative!

TakesTwoToTango · 09/03/2015 17:40

Gah! Soft hands but the technical abilities of a snail Blush

TakesTwoToTango · 09/03/2015 17:40

kiehls

ButterflyOfFreedom · 10/03/2015 08:24

Wow, thanks for all your replies!
Some great recommendations.
The hemp body shop one has been mentioned a few times so I might give that a try.
I do actually have the Aveeno & Neutrogena ones and whilst they are pretty good, I reckon there must be something better out there...

I have just bought the body shop hemp one as I'm at the end of my tether with horrible dry cracked skin! It gets so cold at work that I have an electric fan heater on most of the time and I'm sure that's what's done it. I have used Elizabeth Arden, nutrogena Norwegian formula (I don't get the love for this, as you only use a teeny amount it doesn't leave my hands soft and I've not noticed any improvement in dryness either!), l'occitane which I find slimy and ineffective, Avon and loads more. So far the body shop one is doing well but I've only had it a few days. It seems much better than regular body shop hand creams.

Norisca · 12/03/2015 10:21

I won't be buying anything from The Body Shop as long as Nestle are a major shareholder. Their actions are despicable and I won't contribute to their profits.

NotLoveActually · 12/03/2015 10:34

I swear by Lotil (you can buy it on amazon) it's amazing for dry hands. It comes in a 500ml pump bottle, give it a go. It's fantastic.

NotLoveActually · 12/03/2015 10:58

Also O'Keefes Working Hands cream is great (amazon again)
