katierocket · 27/10/2006 09:35

buy one of those long wool cardies and use an umbrella? (that's what I'm doing)

wheelybug · 27/10/2006 09:36

have you seen the jojomamanbebe one ?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 27/10/2006 09:38

how about one of these?

TheBlonde · 27/10/2006 09:48

Last pregnancy I didn't bother with a coat - I just wore a slightly larger than usual size North Face fleece. It fitted fine all the way through

redbullbloodandbump · 27/10/2006 09:51

i tried the cream parker one on in m&s and it nearly came down to my knees i couldnt even see my hands!!! and it was really thin like a rain coat

a poncho a la posh ?

KTeepee · 27/10/2006 11:03

Only been heavily pregnant through the winter once... I wore a "normal" coat that was sort of "swing" in shape so planty of room for the bump - but was a bit formal. I think there are a lot of "swing" shapes in fashion this year so maybe you could find something in a normal range? I will try to find a link to show you what I mean.

FoghornLeghorn · 27/10/2006 11:06

I'm doing the same as Katierocket - brought a knee length knitted cardi from H&M, defo keeps me warm. I coudln't find any coats anywhere

KTeepee · 27/10/2006 11:13

Or have you tried ebay - they have lots in their maternity section

redbullbloodandbump · 27/10/2006 13:59

I've bought one of these. I've worn it a couple of times and it is very warm. I'm due in feb and thought it would be OK with a scarf and several layers on under
jojo zip top
Jo Jo also do a long cardi and a fleecy thing but I'm small so decided these would n'y be a good fit

first time round I wore an old fleece of DH's and smartened it up with a pashmina and will probably have to do the same this time. I saw the ones in JoJo - they are gorgeous but perhaps a bit pricey and posh just for walking to and from school in?!

BloomingMarvellous and/or JoJo (can't remember which one it was, but one of those) do/did casual maternity fleeces, which is what I wore with DS.

twelveyeargap · 27/10/2006 15:20

I was looking for one too, but couldn't find one. The one in Topshop was horridly unflattering. I bought a nice one for £70 in Dorothy Perkins last night instead that had a slightly "tulip" shape under the bust and bought a size bigger than usual. There's plenty of growing room in it, (although I'm not very big yet). Also bought a hooded, padded parka type thingy for casual, for £25. I've checked many, many, many websites and really didn't see any maternity coats.
Did see a lady in topshop wearing a heavy woollen wrap thingy and it looked very nice.

If you are size 8 you can easily find a size 12 mate to borrow a coat from so it would be a waste of money. If you are size umpity-tumpity-tum then it's more difficult to find a size unmpity-tumpity-tumpity-tum mate to borrow a coat from and you might be forced to buy your own...

Personally I only really needed a coat in the rain (the baby-shaped central heating unit I was carting around took care of temperature requirements) and open didn't really help with the whole keeping dry issue.
