Isabel Marant wedge sneaker - mutton??

mowglik · 08/03/2015 14:20

I tried on some IM wedge sneakers this weekend and loved the way they looked - I'm always looking for wide/bulky footwear to balance out my upper body and these looked really good. Only thing is I'm wondering if they're a bit young for me - I'm 35, though look early/mid twenties I'm told and I dress very casually too

Any opinions on wearing these shoes in mid thirties?

I have a pair and am 49!

FrugalFashionista · 08/03/2015 14:24

Age is not what it used to be. I just got carded and I'm 42 Wink
If they suit you and you feel great in them, go for it!

santamarianovella · 08/03/2015 14:28

Loads of mums in dcs school wear them for SR, some of them are in late 30- mid 40s, and they look great,

I have the marant bobby's, which are more subtle, but still with a bit of wedge, love them!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/03/2015 14:45

Personally, I don't like them, sorry. But I don't think they are 'mutton' either, whatever that actually means - they are something more likely to be worn by 35-plus around here than they are by, 'The Youth.'

SirChenjin · 08/03/2015 14:47

They look like something you'd find in Sports Direct. Not a good look on anyone over the age of 16.

loveliesbleeding1 · 08/03/2015 14:57

They look like something kanye West would wear, imo

adorably2014 · 08/03/2015 15:03

Very early 30s here. Have a pair of Bobby's and agree with santamaria that they are much more subtle and versatile than the Wila or Becket. I think Wila and Becket don't look that flattering on models even. It's very tricky to marry their sportiness with anything else I have, but guess it depends how you want to wear yours?
But definitely not a question of age, rather just a question of taste and how you want to wear them with what style.

noddyholder · 08/03/2015 15:22

I think they are a bit over now as I have had them years and am not that trendy!

Oly4 · 08/03/2015 16:34

They're awful, sorry!! Not mutton, just try too hard for any age. Kanye West indeed!

noddyholder · 08/03/2015 16:37

Don't think they are try hard very common where I live and have been for a few years. Nice with tight skinnies and a bit jumper and scarf

Twinklestein · 08/03/2015 16:44

Not mutton but over.

dotsanddashes · 08/03/2015 17:20

Nothing to do with age, but wedge trainers with as obvious a heel as that are definitely over. Any trend that has filtered all the way down to being sold cheaply in Sport Direct is kind of a clue!

I think there is a place for a lower or less obvious wedge still though. I also have the Marant bobbys, and its difficult to tell from looking at them that they have a wedge, but they will give you the lift you're maybe after. Also, if you're in this price range, some Golden Goose mid-tops have a small wedge heel too and as a brand are very current. You'd need to like the distressed look though! Adidas also do some wedge mid-tops which are cheaper.

Going back to the IM ones you linked too, if you really like that style and don't care about being really on trend, then Ash do near identical copies which would be much cheaper, if it was just the style and not the brand you were after.

30andtired · 08/03/2015 18:12

I'm 31 and have them Smile although I tend to wear all black or all white Nike Air Max on a more daily basis now as the wedge and carrying a 2yr old takes it toll.

I dress very casual, due to work and they give me an uplift with their thick sole.

I probably look like mutton in some people's opinion but in all honesty, I get a lot of compliments on my outfits. As a rule to compensate for my casual, I always have my make up immaculate.

AmberNectarine · 08/03/2015 18:52

I have a pair and really like them.

mammuzzamia · 08/03/2015 18:55

I think they're hideous. I'd also like to be a bore and disapprove of the word 'mutton'

herecomesthsun · 08/03/2015 19:15

they are lovely. I have just ordered a bargain Ash pair - and I am 15 years older than you. I am planning to hide them under flares in the summer

Buttwing · 08/03/2015 19:49

I don't think they're mutton but I do think they may have had their day a bit. They have been massively copied and although I love beckits I think I'd struggle to pay that price for something that's been around so long.
Saying that though, if you love them go for it :)

mowglik · 08/03/2015 20:53

I'll have a look at the ash ones thank you. Thanks for the comments - I'm not too concerned about whether people like them or not, more whether they might seem a bit young for a person in their thirties but it seems like it may be ok, esp if the rest of my outfit is not too out there..

They do look a bit Kanye west but when worn with midi skirts and dresses or skinnies I think they look quite funky...

Follow on question then, what kind of outfits do you wear them with? Skinnies or would they go with boyfriends and other types of legwear too?

Oooooo I like them and would DEFO wear them. Bollocks if anyone thinks they're mutton. My friends bought me a pair of patent leather DM boots for my 40th birthday. They are fab Smile
